Donis on coaching the Saudi national team: It's a great honor, and this is the secret to my success

Veteran Greek coach Giorgos Donis, the current manager of Al-Khaleej FC, expressed his immense happiness and pride at being considered for the position of head coach of the Saudi Arabian national football team. Donis emphasized that simply being linked to the "Green Falcons" is a great professional honor for him, given the prestigious place Saudi Arabia holds in his coaching career and personal life.

Donis's remarks came during the press conference preceding his team's anticipated match against Al-Hilal in the eleventh round of the Saudi Professional League. In a heartfelt and respectful statement, the Greek coach declared that if given the choice to coach any national team in the world, his options would be unequivocally limited to the Saudi national team and his native Greece, emphasizing his deep sense of belonging to the Kingdom, feeling as if he were among family in his second home.

Extensive experience and deep understanding of Saudi football

Donis's statements are not made in a vacuum; they are based on a long and distinguished history in Saudi football. The Greek coach previously led Al-Hilal during a period of remarkable success, including winning the King's Cup, the Crown Prince Cup, and the Saudi Super Cup. This rich experience, along with his subsequent coaching stints with Al-Wahda, Al-Fateh, and currently Al-Khaleej, has given him a comprehensive vision and a deep understanding of what he described as the "DNA" of the Saudi player.

Donis explained in this context that the local player in Saudi Arabia possesses very high technical and skill capabilities that rival global levels, noting that the missing element is sometimes “confidence” and the appropriate tactical organization to bring out the best in him within the green rectangle.

A clear imprint in the star industry

The Greek coach cited his instrumental role in developing the talents of several players who have become key or substitutes in the current Saudi national team. Donis proudly mentioned his contribution to the development of international striker Firas Al-Buraikan, who shone brightly under his guidance at Al-Fateh, becoming the top scorer in the Saudi league. He also mentioned other players such as Nawaf Boushal, Murad Hawsawi, and Saleh Abu Shamat, emphasizing that seeing them represent their country is the greatest testament to the success of his work in preparing the players both psychologically and technically.

The future of Saudi football

Georgios Donis concluded his remarks with an optimistic outlook for the future of Saudi football, particularly given the qualitative leap the Roshan League is experiencing by attracting world-class stars. He emphasized that continued investment in young talent and ensuring technical stability are the two key factors for guaranteeing the continued development of the Saudi national team and its ability to compete strongly in upcoming continental and international tournaments.
