The Speaker of the Shura Council discusses the future of digital transformation with the Governor of the Digital Government

His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, received His Excellency the Governor of the Digital Government Authority, Engineer Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Suwayan, at the Council’s headquarters in Riyadh today, in a meeting aimed at strengthening joint cooperation between the legislative authority and the executive bodies concerned with digitization.
The meeting addressed several topics of mutual interest, reviewing aspects related to the Kingdom's digital transformation efforts and the associated legislation and regulations that support the development of digital government services. The meeting also highlighted the Kingdom's rapid advancements in digital services, which are an extension of the goals of Vision 2030, a comprehensive digital transformation that has solidified the Kingdom's well-deserved global standing.
The role of the Shura Council in supporting digital legislation
During the meeting, the Speaker of the Shura Council emphasized the pivotal role the Council plays in discussing and studying regulations and policies related to enhancing the performance of digital transformation. He noted that the Council pays close attention to following up on topics and annual reports referred to it concerning the development and enhancement of government performance, to ensure their alignment with the highest international standards and in line with national aspirations.
For his part, His Excellency the Governor of the Digital Government Authority commended the important and supportive role played by the Shura Council in strengthening the legislative and regulatory environment conducive to digital transformation. Engineer Al-Suwayan emphasized that this legislative support has directly contributed to the Kingdom's remarkable international successes, particularly in the areas of internet governance and improving the digital services performance index, making the Kingdom a model to be emulated in the region.
The context of digital transformation in Vision 2030
This meeting comes at a time when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing significant leaps in international e-government indicators. The Kingdom's Vision 2030 places digital transformation as a cornerstone for diversifying the economy and improving quality of life. The Digital Government Authority, as the competent body for all matters related to digital government, is working to regulate digital government operations and serves as the national authority on these matters, with the aim of achieving a proactive and efficient digital government capable of delivering high-quality services.
Aligning the legislation approved by the Shura Council with the executive practices of government bodies is a crucial factor in accelerating the pace of achievement, as flexible systems contribute to enabling emerging technologies and artificial intelligence to improve government operations and reduce bureaucracy, which positively impacts the satisfaction of beneficiaries, both citizens and residents.
The reception was attended by His Excellency the Vice President of the Council, Dr. Meshaal bin Fahm Al-Sulami, Her Excellency the Assistant President of the Council, Dr. Hanan bint Abdulrahim Al-Ahmadi, His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Council, Mr. Mohammed bin Dakhel Al-Mutairi, and Council Member and Chairman of the Transportation, Communications and Information Technology Committee, Dr. Issa bin Rifai Al-Otaibi.
