8,000 vehicles to serve visitors to the Grand Mosque and electronic booking via the Tanawl app

The General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques announced the raising of the readiness of the transportation and logistics system inside the Grand Mosque, by providing a huge fleet of 8,000 diverse vehicles, aimed at facilitating the movement of pilgrims, Umrah performers and worshippers, especially the elderly and people with disabilities, to ensure that they perform their rituals with ease, convenience and peace of mind.
Advanced fleet and modern technologies
The authority explained in its statement that the fleet dedicated to serving pilgrims to the Holy Mosque is divided into more than 5,000 standard vehicles, in addition to approximately 3,000 modern electric vehicles. The electric vehicles are characterized by high-quality technical specifications, designed to withstand varying weights and provide maximum comfort and safety for users. They operate within designated lanes to ensure smooth traffic flow and avoid interference with pedestrian movement in the circumambulation area and the Sa'i area.
Digital transformation and the "Tanaqul" application
As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts to utilize technology and artificial intelligence to serve pilgrims, and in line with the goals of Vision 2030's digital transformation, the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah has enabled the pre-booking of electric vehicles through the "Tanqul" app. This step allows pilgrims and visitors to book the service before arriving at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, reducing waiting times and contributing to crowd management and congestion at distribution points, where users can pick up their vehicles upon arrival.
Strategic locations for service delivery
To ensure easy access, the authority has identified key distribution points covering all areas of the Grand Mosque:
- Free carts: are available in the eastern square (public transport entrance), the southern square (next to the King Abdulaziz Endowment), and the western square (Al-Shubaika entrance).
- Electric vehicles: They are located on the mezzanine and first floors, and can be accessed via specific entrances such as Ajyad Bridge, Ajyad Electric Staircase, Al-Shabika Bridge, and Al-Qashashiyah Roof.
Cart and golf cart pusher service
The services were not limited to providing wheelchairs; they also included organizing a service for licensed wheelchair pushers, who are stationed at key locations such as the ground-level circumambulation area and the Sa'i area to serve the elderly. The Authority also enhanced its services in the outer courtyards by providing free golf carts to transport worshippers and pilgrims from the outer access points to the gates of the Haram, thus creating a vital link that alleviates the burden of walking long distances for the elderly.
The importance of developing the transportation system in the Two Holy Mosques
These efforts reflect the great attention the wise leadership pays to the Two Holy Mosques, as the Grand Mosque is witnessing historic expansions and continuous infrastructure development. The wheelchair service is a cornerstone of crowd management, especially during peak seasons such as Ramadan and Hajj, contributing to smoother movement and reducing fatigue among pilgrims, thus showcasing the excellent services provided to the guests of God.
