Hajj health services 1445: One million medical services for the pilgrims
The Saudi Arabian healthcare system announced the success of its operational plans for the 1445 AH Hajj season, having provided over one million comprehensive healthcare services to pilgrims. This achievement is a culmination of the tireless efforts of all healthcare sectors to ensure the safety of pilgrims and enable them to perform their rituals in a healthy and secure environment, with the highest standards of comfort and ease.
Historical background and ongoing efforts
Since its founding, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed paramount importance on serving the Two Holy Mosques and caring for their visitors. Managing healthcare during the Hajj season is one of the world's greatest logistical challenges, given the massive human gathering in a limited geographical area and within a short timeframe. Over the decades, the Kingdom has developed a sophisticated healthcare infrastructure in Mecca, Medina, and the Holy Sites, including specialized hospitals, seasonal health centers, mobile field medical teams, and air and ground ambulance services. The Kingdom invests billions annually to modernize this system and equip it with the latest medical technologies and qualified personnel to handle all emergency and preventative cases.
Details of health services for the Hajj season of 1445 AH
Statistics released by the health system revealed that a total of 1,001,468 services were provided, encompassing a wide range of medical care. 114,889 pilgrims benefited from health center and urgent care services, while hospital emergency departments received 58,462 cases. Outpatient clinics provided services to 29,846 patients. To ensure rapid response in the field, ambulance teams deployed throughout the holy sites attended to 18,161 cases.
High-quality operations and advanced care
The services provided were not limited to primary and emergency care, but extended to include complex and highly specialized medical procedures. A total of 410 general surgeries, 323 cardiac catheterizations, and 33 open-heart surgeries were performed, reflecting the advanced capabilities of the field and seasonal hospitals. The number of hospital admissions reached 8,342, all of whom received the necessary medical care until their health stabilized.
Importance and impact within the framework of Vision 2030
These efforts are of paramount importance both domestically and internationally. Domestically, these figures underscore the efficiency and preparedness of the Saudi healthcare sector and its capacity to manage crises and mass gatherings. Internationally, these successes reinforce the Kingdom's position as a leading nation in crowd management and humanitarian services, and reassure the Muslim world about the safety of its citizens during Hajj. These efforts fall under the objectives of the "Guests of God Service Program," one of the key programs of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to enrich the religious experience of pilgrims and Umrah performers and provide them with all means of comfort and safety, ensuring that their Hajj journey remains a lasting spiritual memory.
