Preparations for Hajj 1445 are complete: New projects to serve pilgrims

Official announcement regarding readiness for the Hajj season

His Excellency the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, announced the completion of all preparations and early arrangements for this year's Hajj season 1445 AH, emphasizing that all capabilities and resources have been harnessed to serve the pilgrims, in line with the ambitious goals of Saudi Vision 2030. This announcement came during the government press conference, where the Minister revealed details of the operational plans and development projects aimed at providing a safe, convenient, and enriching Hajj experience for all pilgrims coming from around the world.

Historical context and religious significance of Hajj

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, an obligatory pilgrimage for every able-bodied adult Muslim once in a lifetime. The hearts and minds of more than 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide turn towards Mecca, home to the holiest sites on Earth. Throughout history, managing and organizing this massive human gathering has presented a significant logistical challenge, one that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has undertaken with responsibility and competence since its founding, continuously developing infrastructure and services to ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims.

Early preparations and an integrated system

Dr. Al-Rabeeah explained that preparations for the current Hajj season began immediately after the conclusion of the previous Hajj season on the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah, with the initial arrangements document being delivered to the Hajj affairs offices. This proactive approach resulted in the signing of regulatory agreements with 78 countries six months before the start of the season, which contributed to finalizing contracts and issuing visas early. He noted that more than 860,000 pilgrims have arrived so far, with 820,000 arriving by air, 35,000 by land, and approximately 4,000 by sea, reflecting the smooth flow of arrivals.

Digital transformation and streamlining procedures

As part of the digital transformation, pilgrims from 126 countries were enabled to book directly through the Nusk digital platform without intermediaries. This platform serves over 51 million users worldwide through 130 diverse digital services. Nusk smart cards were also distributed to all arriving pilgrims to facilitate their movement and provide quick access to services. The Minister commended the success of the "Hajj Without Luggage" initiative, which reduced arrival procedures at the airport from 120 minutes to just 15 minutes, representing a significant leap forward in enhancing the pilgrim experience.

Infrastructure development and environmental projects

The Minister revealed that the Royal Commission for Makkah and the Holy Sites has implemented more than 25 development projects, a 100% increase compared to last year. These projects included shading and cooling the area surrounding Mount Arafat (Jabal al-Rahma) covering more than 272,000 square meters, developing pedestrian walkways covering 103,000 square meters, planting more than 60,000 trees as part of the "Green Sites" initiative, and operating an air conditioning system comprising more than 6,000 misting columns to provide a more comfortable environment for pilgrims.

The importance and expected impact of the Hajj season

The importance of a successful Hajj season extends beyond the religious sphere to encompass significant economic and diplomatic dimensions. Domestically, the Hajj revitalizes economic activity in Mecca and Medina, supporting the hospitality, transportation, and retail sectors. Internationally, successful organization reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leader of the Islamic world and custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, sending a positive message about its ability to manage the largest human gatherings efficiently and safely—a matter of particular importance given the current global challenges.

Ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims

The Minister commended the Ministry of Interior's significant efforts in rigorously implementing the "No Hajj Without a Permit" campaign, warning against falling prey to fraudulent campaigns. He emphasized that the system operates with institutional integration through more than 600 action plans overseen by the Hajj Management Office and closely monitored by the Supreme Hajj Committee, all with the single objective of ensuring the safety, security, and peace of mind of the pilgrims until their safe return home.
