More than 860,000 pilgrims have arrived for the Hajj season of 1445 AH
His Excellency the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, announced that more than 860,000 pilgrims have arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia so far, as part of preparations for the 1445 AH Hajj season. This announcement came during a government press conference highlighting the readiness of various sectors to serve the pilgrims. Al-Rabiah explained that the vast majority of pilgrims, 820,000, arrived by air, while 35,000 arrived by land and 4,000 by sea. He also noted the continued success of the “Makkah Route Initiative,” which has benefited more than 240,000 pilgrims this year, significantly facilitating their entry procedures into the Kingdom.
Hajj: A spiritual journey and a rich history
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, a religious pilgrimage eagerly anticipated by over two billion Muslims worldwide. It is a spiritual journey to Mecca that every able-bodied adult Muslim is obligated to undertake once in their lifetime. This religious duty traces its roots back to the time of the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) and comprises a series of rituals that reinforce the values of equality, detachment, and unity among Muslims. They gather from all corners of the earth, stripped of worldly attachments, dressed in the uniform white ihram garments, to perform Tawaf (circumambulation of the Kaaba), Sa'i (walking between Safa and Marwa), and standing at Arafat, among other rites that symbolize repentance and spiritual renewal.
The Kingdom's efforts in serving the pilgrims and Vision 2030
The leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places serving the pilgrims at the forefront of its priorities, dedicating all resources to ensuring their comfort and safety. These integrated efforts are part of the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to enrich the religious experience for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. In this context, the Holy Sites have witnessed massive development projects, with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites implementing more than 25 development projects, a 100% increase compared to last year. The use of technology to facilitate the Hajj journey has also been expanded, with the number of users of the "Nusk" application exceeding 51 million, which offers a comprehensive suite of digital services.
The global importance of the Hajj season
The impact of the Hajj season extends far beyond the religious sphere, encompassing significant economic, social, and international dimensions. Locally, Hajj is a vital economic driver, stimulating the transportation, housing, services, and retail sectors. Internationally, it represents the world's largest annual human gathering, strengthening bonds of brotherhood among Muslim nations and reinforcing diplomatic ties between the Kingdom and over 126 countries. Initiatives such as the "Green Sites" project, which involves planting more than 60,000 trees and utilizing over 6,000 misting columns to cool the air, highlight the Kingdom's commitment to environmental sustainability and enhancing the quality of life in the Holy Sites.
The minister concluded by emphasizing that all government and private entities are working together seamlessly to provide the highest quality services and ensure that pilgrims perform their rituals with peace and ease, carrying with them unforgettable spiritual memories. The Kingdom continues to welcome groups of pilgrims as the Day of Tarwiyah approaches, amidst comprehensive preparations to guarantee the success of this year's Hajj season.
