13,000 field staff welcome pilgrims in Muzdalifah: The Kingdom's efforts

Intensive efforts continue to ensure the comfort and safety of pilgrims during the Hajj season. In this context, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, represented by the Holy Capital Municipality, has increased the readiness of Muzdalifah to receive pilgrims after their blessed departure from Arafat. This is part of its comprehensive operational plan for the Hajj season, which aims to enhance the quality of services provided, improve environmental sanitation, and manage crowds effectively in the holy sites.

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and a profound spiritual journey for millions of Muslims worldwide. After standing on Mount Arafat, the most important pillar of Hajj, pilgrims proceed to Muzdalifah to spend the night and collect pebbles for the stoning ritual before heading to Mina to perform the stoning of the Jamarat and the remaining rituals. Managing such massive crowds has always been an immense logistical challenge, and for decades, Saudi Arabia has dedicated vast resources to developing infrastructure and services to ensure pilgrims can perform their rituals with ease and peace of mind. These efforts reflect the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to serving the Two Holy Mosques and the pilgrims, a commitment clearly embodied in its ambitious Vision 2030.

The Ministry explained that field teams began comprehensive preparations in Muzdalifah well in advance, intensifying cleaning and environmental sanitation efforts, preparing public facilities, and clearing pathways and pedestrian areas. This field work is supported by additional teams and specialized equipment operating around the clock to ensure a rapid response to emergencies and to manage the high population density experienced in Muzdalifah during this pivotal stage of the Hajj pilgrimage.

These preparations are an integral part of a comprehensive operational system in Makkah and the Holy Sites. The operational system in Muzdalifah is supported by more than 13,000 field personnel, in addition to thousands of vehicles and operational equipment. This massive logistical and human support enhances the sustainability of municipal services and raises the level of preparedness during the movement of pilgrims between the Holy Sites, ensuring a smooth and safe Hajj experience. The success of these operations reflects positively on the Kingdom's reputation as a leading nation in managing the world's largest human gatherings and affirms its ability to provide an ideal environment for performing religious rites.

Regarding waste management, the Ministry added that cleaning and waste management operations in Muzdalifah are implemented through a comprehensive operational plan that includes intensifying and continuously removing waste, and utilizing the system of compactors and underground storage facilities located throughout the holy site. These measures effectively contribute to preserving the general environment and improving environmental sanitation, which is vital for the health and safety of pilgrims.

The Ministry also confirmed the readiness of its emergency and field maintenance teams in Muzdalifah, along with teams combating disease vectors and public health pests, and teams monitoring stormwater drainage and lighting networks. These teams are working in full coordination to ensure a safe and suitable environment for the pilgrims, reflecting the integrated government efforts to serve them and enable them to perform their rituals with ease and peace of mind. It is worth noting that the Ministry began preparing Mina immediately after the pilgrims departed for Arafat, through intensive environmental sanitation work, waste removal, and on-site preparation, to ensure Mina's readiness to receive the pilgrims after their departure from Muzdalifah.

The Ministry supports its operational plan with an integrated waste management system in the Holy Sites, which includes compacting bins, underground storage facilities, thousands of pieces of equipment, and field personnel. This contributes to preserving the general environment and raising the quality of services provided to the pilgrims, and confirms the Kingdom’s commitment to providing the best services to the pilgrims.
