Introduction to preparations for the Hajj season of 1447 AH

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to serve pilgrims, the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has intensified its field operations to enhance infrastructure readiness in Makkah and the Holy Sites. These proactive steps are part of comprehensive preparations for a successful Hajj season of 1447 AH, aiming to improve traffic safety and facilitate smooth movement at all vital locations and pilgrim routes, thus ensuring a safe and comfortable spiritual experience.

The historical context of serving the guests of God

Historically, since its unification, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has given utmost attention and care to the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors. Facilitating and ensuring the safety of the Hajj pilgrimage is a top priority for the Saudi leadership. With the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, these efforts have intensified to include massive development projects aimed at accommodating the increasing number of pilgrims and providing high-quality services that meet the aspirations of Muslims worldwide. The current preparations for the 1447 AH Hajj season are a natural extension of this long-standing historical legacy, highlighting the Kingdom's exceptional ability to manage the largest annual human gathering on Earth.

Details of municipal projects and infrastructure

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing explained that its operational plan for this year included figures and statistics reflecting the massive scale of the fieldwork. This work encompassed upgrading 92 intersections within the bridge network and preparing 62 underpasses for pedestrians and vehicles. In addition, over 110,000 linear meters of road markings and signage were installed, directly contributing to improved visibility and enhanced traffic safety for pilgrims.

Regarding the lighting network, the Ministry has enhanced its readiness by activating more than 330,000 lighting units, in addition to maintaining and equipping 150,000 lighting poles distributed throughout Mecca and the Holy Sites. This step creates a safer environment in areas of high traffic and along the main roads and axes leading to the Holy Sites, while emphasizing the continuation of round-the-clock field monitoring and maintenance to ensure the sustained efficiency of the infrastructure.

Supporting smooth mobility and operational plans

To ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims, the Ministry announced, as part of its operational plans for the 1447 AH Hajj season , the construction and maintenance of over 11 million linear meters of roads and the improvement and development of approximately 74 million square meters of road surfaces. Additionally, 123 bridges and 44 tunnels for pedestrians and vehicles were made operational in various locations, enhancing traffic flow and facilitating easy and convenient movement between the holy sites.

The role of volunteer work in serving pilgrims

The efforts were not limited to the engineering and technical aspects, but extended to the humanitarian and social dimensions. The Ministry, through its regional secretariats, mobilized more than 4,500 male and female volunteers within the municipal volunteer system. These volunteers participate in providing support and assistance to pilgrims at vital locations, entry points, and roads leading to the holy sites, thus significantly bolstering operational and service efforts during the Hajj season.

The importance and expected impact of the event

The success of the 1447 AH Hajj season is of paramount importance on several levels. Locally, these massive projects contribute to the sustainable development of Makkah's infrastructure, create seasonal employment opportunities, and stimulate the economy. Regionally and internationally, this meticulous organization reinforces the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's position as a leading nation capable of harnessing cutting-edge technologies and the best human resources to serve millions of Muslims, leaving a profound and positive impact on pilgrims returning home and reaffirming to the world the Kingdom's message of peace and meticulous organization.
