Hajj vaccinations 1447 AH: Health requirements and how to book through Sehaty

As part of its early preparations to ensure a safe and healthy Hajj season, the Saudi Ministry of Health has called on citizens and residents intending to perform Hajj from within the Kingdom for the 1447 AH season to complete the necessary health vaccinations. This step comes as part of the national strategy to maintain public health and enhance community immunity within the holy sites, ensuring that pilgrims can perform their rituals in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
Mandatory and recommended vaccinations for domestic pilgrims
The ministry explained the details of the approved health protocol for this season, stressing the importance of adhering to the following vaccinations:
- Meningococcal (Neisseria) Meningococcal Vaccination: This vaccine is a mandatory requirement for all pilgrims and healthcare professionals participating in the Hajj season. The requirement applies to those who have not received the vaccine in the past five years; their immunization status will be verified electronically via the "Sehhaty" app.
- Seasonal flu vaccine: The Ministry strongly recommended taking this vaccine, provided that it has not been received before September 1, 2025, to ensure its effectiveness during the Hajj season.
- Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine: The recommendations included the necessity of receiving the updated vaccine, provided that the dose had not been taken before January 1, 2025.
Saudi leadership in crowd medicine and health security
These stringent measures are based on Saudi Arabia’s long and globally leading experience in mass gathering medicine. For decades, the Kingdom has successfully managed the world’s largest human gatherings through an integrated health system designed to prevent the spread of epidemics. The health requirements for Hajj are considered an international model for controlling infectious diseases, with the Ministry updating its protocols annually based on global epidemiological developments to ensure a disease-free environment.
The importance of commitment and its impact on the safety of pilgrims
The importance of these vaccinations extends beyond individual protection to encompass regional and international health security. Given the high population density in the holy sites, immunization is the first line of defense against the transmission of infection among pilgrims and their subsequent spread to their communities upon return. This health awareness also helps reduce the pressure on field healthcare facilities, allowing medical personnel to provide better emergency and treatment services for other medical emergencies.
How to book appointments via the “Sehhaty” app
The Ministry of Health urged all those intending to perform Hajj, as well as assigned healthcare personnel, to book their vaccination appointments early to avoid overcrowding. This can be easily done through the following steps:
- Access the “My Health” app.
- Select the “Appointments” service.
- Book an appointment at the “Adult Vaccination Clinic”.
The ministry affirmed that these proactive steps are in line with its strategic objectives to enhance prevention and protect the health and safety of pilgrims.
