Hamza Abdelkareem returns to Barcelona: The first Egyptian in the history of the Catalan club
Mohamed Abdelkareem, the father of the young Egyptian talent Hamza Abdelkareem , announced that his son has returned to Spain to officially join Barcelona's training sessions, after a period of forced absence due to administrative procedures related to work and residence permits.
In exclusive statements to Okaz newspaper, the player’s father confirmed that Hamza had indeed arrived in Spain last Thursday, after successfully completing all the official documents and papers that had been hindering his participation in official matches, noting that his son was now ready to begin his professional journey within the walls of the prestigious Catalan club.
The administrative crisis is over and the dream begins
Hamza Abdelkarim joined Barcelona on loan from Egyptian club Al Ahly during the last winter transfer window. Despite joining the team, strict regulations in Spain and UEFA regarding minors and non-EU players delayed his debut.
The player had to return to Cairo last month to complete these complicated bureaucratic procedures, a routine but necessary step to ensure the legality of his participation and avoid any penalties for the club, so that he could finally get the green light to return and participate in the training of the reserve team and youth teams.
A historic event for Egyptian football
Hamza Abdelkareem's transfer to Barcelona is of exceptional importance, transcending the mere transfer of a young player; he is the first Egyptian player in Barcelona's history . This event represents a qualitative leap in the trajectory of Egyptian professionals in Europe, as Egyptian fans have become accustomed to seeing their stars shine in the English or German leagues, while the doors of Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid remained closed to Egyptian talent for many years.
This move will enhance the reputation of Egyptian players globally, especially after the overwhelming successes achieved by Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, which has led scouts from major clubs to turn their attention to rising talents in Egypt.
La Masia Academy: A Factory of Stars
Joining Barcelona means Hamza is entering one of the world's most prestigious football academies. The club's academy and reserve team are renowned for producing legends of the game such as Lionel Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, and more recently, Lamine Yamal and Xavi. Being in this environment presents the young Egyptian player with significant challenges in adapting to the "tiki-taka" style and the high level of tactical discipline for which the club is known.
The player had caught the attention of the Catalan club's scouts thanks to his outstanding performance with the Egyptian national youth team under 17 years old, as he possesses physical and technical qualities that made Barca officials bet on him as a promising striker project for the future.
Stay tuned for the debut
With the paperwork complete, Egyptian and Arab fans eagerly await Hamza's debut in the Blaugrana jersey. His father concluded his remarks by indicating that the debut is imminent, saying, "God willing, he will play for Barcelona soon," thus raising hopes of seeing a new Egyptian star shine in the Spanish La Liga.
