Haramain High-Speed Railway: An intensive operational plan for the Hajj season
plays The Haramain High-Speed Railway a pivotal role in the integrated transportation system serving pilgrims during Hajj season, effectively facilitating their journey from Makkah to Madinah after completing their rituals. As part of the intensified operational plan for the 1445 AH Hajj season, the train's capacity was increased to meet the growing demand, with up to 80 daily trips operating towards the Prophet's City (peace be upon him), ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for pilgrims.
This mega-project is one of the most prominent projects of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to develop infrastructure and improve the quality of services provided to visitors of the Two Holy Mosques. Since its official launch in 2018, the Haramain High-Speed Railway has revolutionized transportation between the two holy cities, offering a modern and efficient solution to the transportation challenges that pilgrims and Umrah performers have faced for decades, and accommodating the millions of increasing numbers annually.
A qualitative leap in the experience of the pilgrims
Before the Haramain High-Speed Railway was launched, the journey between Mecca and Medina took between five and six hours by bus, a particularly tiring trip for the elderly and families after performing Hajj. Today, the train has reduced this distance to approximately two hours and 15 minutes, traveling at speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour. This achievement not only saves time but also fundamentally improves the entire Hajj experience, providing travelers with high levels of comfort, safety, and punctuality, allowing them to better utilize their time for worship and visiting religious sites in Medina.
Details of the operational plan for the Haramain High-Speed Railway
The official spokesperson for Saudi Railways (SAR), Khalid Al-Farhan, confirmed that the Haramain High-Speed Railway in Madinah is experiencing high operational activity, receiving and departing more than 80 trains daily. These trips are part of a total of 142 daily journeys operated by the train along its entire route connecting Makkah and Madinah, passing through King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City. This highly efficient operational system was designed to ensure the smooth flow of pilgrims, enhance the quality of services provided to them, and offer fast and safe transportation options befitting the status of the guests of God.
