Developments at Imam University Stadium: 75% of concrete work completed

The Ministry of Sports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia revealed the latest developments regarding the progress of work on the Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University stadium project in the capital, Riyadh, confirming that significant leaps have been made in the implementation phases, as part of its relentless pursuit to upgrade the sports facilities system to meet global aspirations.
Details of construction and technical achievements
According to the official announcement, the completion rate for the project's concrete works has exceeded 75%, a strong indicator of the accelerated pace of work. Efforts have not been limited to the concrete structure alone; parallel work has commenced on the main utility infrastructure, including water and electricity networks and advanced indoor air conditioning systems, to ensure a comprehensive and comfortable sports environment.
On-site developments also included the commencement of the actual installation of precast concrete terraces, a modern technology that accelerates construction processes and ensures high quality. Simultaneously, structural reinforcement work was completed on existing buildings and terraces to guarantee safety and sustainability, in addition to the completion of painting the roof of the western terrace, which adds an aesthetic and modern touch to the facility.
Promoting local content and the national economy
In a move reflecting the Kingdom's strategic direction, the Ministry affirmed that the Imam University stadium project places a strong emphasis on enhancing local content. This is achieved by relying on a number of national factories and suppliers to provide the necessary materials, directly contributing to stimulating the economic cycle, creating job opportunities, and transferring technical and engineering expertise in the field of sports infrastructure construction to national talent.
Keeping pace with Vision 2030 and international requirements
This vital project comes within the context of the comprehensive sports renaissance that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is experiencing under the umbrella of Vision 2030, which aims to enhance quality of life and increase sports participation in society. These projects gain added importance as the Kingdom prepares to host major sporting events in the near future, such as the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
Developing university stadiums not only serves the academic sector and students, but also constitutes a fundamental support for national sports facilities, as these stadiums can be used as training centers for international teams or to host local and regional matches and competitions, thus enhancing Riyadh’s position as the capital of sports in the region.
