The Governor of Jazan inaugurates the Tarahum Endowment Fund to support prisoners' families

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening and ensuring the sustainability of charitable work, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Jazan Region, inaugurated the "Tarham" Endowment Fund today. The inauguration was attended by Abdullah Al-Shamrani, Chairman of the National Sub-Committee for the Care of Prisoners' Families and Released Prisoners in the region, and several committee members. This launch represents the culmination of the committee's efforts to develop its financial resources to better serve its beneficiaries.

Fund details and strategic objectives

During the inauguration ceremony, His Highness the Deputy Governor of Jazan listened to a detailed explanation of the fund's operational mechanisms, which were designed as a sustainable investment model. The fund primarily aims to create stable financial resources to support prisoners, released inmates, and their families, not only through direct financial assistance but also by funding comprehensive care programs, psychological and vocational rehabilitation, and social empowerment initiatives, thus ensuring these families transition from dependency to productivity.

The context of charitable work and the Kingdom's Vision 2030

The launch of this endowment fund aligns with the general direction of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under Vision 2030, which places great importance on the non-profit sector and seeks to increase its contribution to the GDP. The National Committee for the Care of Prisoners, Released Prisoners, and Their Families (Tarahum), established by a Cabinet decision, is one of the most important pillars of the Kingdom's social protection system. Since its inception, the committee has worked to bridge the social gap that may result from the absence of a family's breadwinner, providing psychological and material support to ensure family stability and prevent delinquency among its members.

Expected social and developmental impact

The Tarahum Endowment Fund in Jazan is expected to have a wide-ranging positive impact at both the local and regional levels, through:

  • Achieving financial sustainability: Moving from reliance on temporary donations to stable endowment investment returns.
  • Strengthening family cohesion: Providing a decent life for prisoners’ families and protecting them from destitution, thus reducing the social problems resulting from the imprisonment of the breadwinner.
  • Reducing recidivism rates: through rehabilitation programs for released prisoners and their integration into the labor market, making them active members of society.

Leadership support for humanitarian work

During the launch, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz emphasized that the establishment of this fund is an extension of the generous care and keen interest shown by the wise leadership – may God support them – in all matters that promote sustainable charitable and developmental work. His Highness pointed to the importance of supporting initiatives that contribute to improving the quality of life and providing genuine opportunities for beneficiaries to be effectively and productively integrated into society. He commended the efforts of those in charge of the "Tarham" Committee in Jazan and their vital role in serving the region.

At the end of the meeting, His Highness was briefed on the Fund’s future plans and investment paths, and the mechanisms for directing returns to maximize social impact and improve the efficiency of services provided in the Jazan region.
