Merging the National Competitiveness Center and the Saudi Business Center into one entity
The Saudi Center for Competitiveness and Business announced the merger of the National Competitiveness Center and the Saudi Center for Economic Business into one center. This organizational transformation aims to improve the business environment, raise the Kingdom’s ranking in relevant international indicators and reports, and facilitate business start-up and operation procedures through best international practices.
According to its regulations, the center possesses public legal personality and enjoys financial and administrative independence. It reports directly to the Chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs and is headquartered in Riyadh. The center is responsible for reviewing regulations, bylaws, and decisions that affect the Kingdom's competitiveness; monitoring challenges and obstacles facing the public and private sectors and proposing solutions to address them; and managing the unified electronic platform for surveying public and government opinions (the survey).
The decision included the appointment of the Minister of Commerce, Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center until a permanent chairman is appointed in accordance with the regulations. The Board of Directors comprises representatives from 11 government entities, including the Ministries of Energy, Commerce, Investment, Economy and Planning, Finance, Human Resources, Municipalities and Housing, Justice, and Industry and Mineral Resources, in addition to the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Digital Government Authority, the CEO, and two specialists from the private sector.
The regulations stipulate that the center shall be the legislative and supervisory authority for unified spatial service centers, with the continued application of previous financial and administrative regulations until the adoption of new regulations, and that the center shall submit an annual report on its achievements and difficulties.
