Jeddah Municipality 2025: 352 rescue operations and efforts to protect beaches
The Jeddah Municipality has released its 2025 annual report, highlighting its extensive efforts in protecting and monitoring the coastline, achieving record-breaking results in response rates and public safety. These efforts are part of the municipality's ongoing commitment to enhancing Jeddah's appeal as a global tourist destination and ensuring a safe environment for all beachgoers, both residents and visitors.
Strategic context and importance of coastal safety
These statistics are particularly significant given Jeddah's strategic location as the gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and the premier tourist destination on the Red Sea coast. With the accelerated pace of development under the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program, the waterfront has witnessed remarkable growth and a substantial increase in visitor numbers. This transformation has necessitated enhanced security and oversight measures to ensure a safe and sustainable tourist experience, as beaches are no longer merely natural havens but have become a cornerstone of the Kingdom's tourism economy.
Field figures and statistics for 2025
Official data revealed that specialized field teams successfully responded to 352 rescue incidents along the beaches under the municipality's supervision, reflecting the rapid response and efficiency of the rescue teams. Field operations included 2,073 intensive patrols and the recording of 11,372 hours of field patrols to monitor marine areas. The municipality also issued 1,964 sailing permits and recorded 167 maritime violations, in an effort to regulate behaviors and practices that could threaten public safety or harm the sensitive marine environment.
Wide geographical range and modern technologies
The Jeddah Municipality's responsibilities extend beyond the city limits, covering a vast geographical area of 530 kilometers, stretching from Rabigh in the north to Al-Qunfudhah in the south. To cover this extensive area, the municipality has established a specialized agency for monitoring and protecting the coastline, supported by 104 qualified lifeguards and inspectors who directly oversee 14 major beaches.
In this context, the Deputy Mayor of Jeddah for Monitoring and Protecting the Maritime Coasts, Captain Thamer Nahhas, explained that the management of these operations relies on a sophisticated maritime fleet equipped with accurate tracking systems and modern operating technologies, linked to operations rooms that work around the clock to ensure immediate response to emergency reports.
Resort oversight and sustainability promotion
In addition to public beaches, the inspections covered 66 marine resorts, with 280 field visits conducted to ensure these facilities' compliance with safety requirements and environmental standards. These measures underscore the municipality's commitment to protecting the marine environment from pollution and encroachment, contributing to the sustainability of natural resources and reinforcing Jeddah's position as a modern city that adheres to the highest international safety and quality standards.
