Jeddah Municipality launches Maximo system for stormwater drainage management

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure and developing municipal services, the Jeddah Municipality the launch of the global "Maximo" system, dedicated to managing the assets and projects of the stormwater drainage program. This step comes as part of the municipality's ongoing efforts to improve operational and maintenance efficiency and ensure the networks are fully prepared to handle the rainy season effectively.
A quantum leap towards smart cities
The launch of this system aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to transform Saudi cities into smart cities that rely on data and modern technologies to manage their resources. Jeddah, as the gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and a major commercial and tourist hub, is at the forefront of cities seeking to adopt the latest technological solutions to address infrastructure challenges, particularly those related to drainage networks, which are essential for public safety and quality of life.
Features of the Maximo system and artificial intelligence technologies
The Deputy Secretary for the Stormwater Drainage Program, Ghassan bin Abdullah Al-Zahrani, explained that the new system represents a qualitative leap in work mechanisms, as it provides a unified digital platform that allows:
- Asset lifecycle management: Accurate tracking of all network components, from pipes and pumps to lift stations, from the moment of installation until the replacement stage.
- Predictive maintenance: Using artificial intelligence techniques to analyze data and detect abnormal patterns, which helps predict breakdowns before they occur and perform proactive rather than reactive maintenance.
- Field connectivity: Unifying operational data and linking technical teams in the field to the control center, which speeds up the response to reports and emergencies.
Enhancing preparedness for the rainy seasons
This launch is particularly important given the geographical and climatic characteristics of Jeddah Governorate, as the system contributes to increasing the reliability of drainage networks. By automating work orders, managing spare parts, and controlling supply chains, the system ensures reduced downtime for stations and equipment, which positively impacts the speed of water drainage and prevents rainwater accumulation that could impede traffic or threaten public safety.
Institutional integration
Maximo's role extends beyond the technical aspects, encompassing integration with other institutional systems within the municipality. This support ensures efficient and transparent contract and procurement management. This approach underscores the Jeddah Municipality's commitment to operational sustainability and leveraging digital transformation to serve residents and visitors, further solidifying Jeddah's position as a modern and advanced city.
