Jeddah Municipality launches the first risk management platform in the Kingdom

In a strategic move that is the first of its kind in the municipal sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Jeddah Governorate Municipality an integrated electronic platform for risk management, which aims to bring about a qualitative shift in institutional work mechanisms and enhance the concepts of governance and transparency.

This pioneering initiative reflects the Secretariat’s commitment to adopting the latest technological solutions to enhance performance efficiency. Professor Ikram Al-Harbi, Director General of Governance, Risk and Compliance at the Secretariat, explained that the new platform provides a comprehensive digital system that not only includes identifying risks, but also extends to include the processes of identification, analysis, treatment and accurate follow-up.

Shifting from reactive to proactive

The platform features proactive, data-driven performance indicators, effectively contributing to the prediction of potential risks before they materialize. This shift from a "reactive" to a "proactive" approach is a cornerstone of modern management, empowering decision-makers to take necessary preventative measures, thereby enhancing operational readiness and ensuring the continuity of business operations and the uninterrupted delivery of high-quality municipal services.

The context of digital transformation and Vision 2030

This achievement cannot be separated from the broader context of the digital transformation underway in Saudi Arabia under Vision 2030. The Vision aims to digitize government services, increase spending efficiency, and improve quality of life. Risk management is an integral part of the national transformation programs, contributing to safeguarding national gains and ensuring the sustainability of development projects and infrastructure.

The strategic importance of a risk management platform

This step is doubly important given Jeddah's status as the gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and a major economic and tourist hub. Managing risks in a city of this size requires sophisticated tools to address environmental, operational, and regulatory challenges. The success of this platform is expected to lead to its adoption by other municipalities and regions across the Kingdom, creating a unified national standard for municipal risk management and enhancing the confidence of beneficiaries and investors in the municipal sector's efficiency and its ability to handle crises with flexibility and high professionalism.

The Secretariat concluded by affirming that launching the platform serves the interest of enhancing compliance and developing internal control tools, in line with global best practices in this field.
