In a move reflecting the accelerating pace of urban and economic development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, concluded a significant two-day inspection visit to Jeddah. This visit comes at a crucial time, as the Red Sea city undergoes radical transformations aimed at improving its urban landscape and enhancing the quality of life, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 .
Restructuring economic and industrial activities
During his tour, the minister inspected a number of high-quality projects aimed at relocating economic activities outside residential areas, a move intended to reduce visual pollution and noise within neighborhoods. He began his visit by inspecting the "Metals and Scrap City," a comprehensive model for regulating this sector. The first phase of the project is fully operational, with investments totaling 650 million riyals allocated to developing advanced infrastructure, including roads and power stations. Leasing is 100% complete, confirming the project's high economic viability.
In a related development, Al-Haqil inaugurated the commencement of the first phase of municipal services projects in the province, covering a vast area of approximately 20 million square meters. These projects include the establishment of specialized cities such as a construction city, an automotive city, a warehousing city, a missile market, and a truck parking city. The total investment in these projects amounts to nearly 5 billion riyals through strategic partnerships with the private sector, thereby enhancing economic growth opportunities and creating sustainable and organized work environments.
Strengthening infrastructure and municipal investment
The visit was not limited to industrial projects but also included investment and technology aspects, as the minister met with members of the board of directors of Jeddah Urban Development and Regeneration Company. The company manages a substantial portfolio of 35 projects and contracts across eight strategic sectors, with investments approaching 8 billion riyals , and oversees assets exceeding 31 million square meters. The meeting also reviewed digital transformation efforts through the companies Omran Tech and Amana Tech, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and governance, in addition to the implementation of more than 38,000 parking spaces to improve traffic flow.
Quality of life and tourism projects
As part of the focus on basic infrastructure, the Minister inspected the stormwater drainage project in the Taiba district, which cost 362 million riyals and is 96% complete. He also reviewed the "Alma" tourist destination project, which spans over 3 million square meters and includes a 12-kilometer-long waterfront, further enhancing Jeddah's position as a global tourist destination.
At the conclusion of his visit, Al-Haqil affirmed that Jeddah continues its progress towards balanced development, pointing to the pivotal role of the municipal sector in creating a supportive environment for tourism, especially with the governorate hosting major international events such as Formula 1 and the Red Sea Film Festival, which consolidates its economic and tourism position on the international map.
