King Abdulaziz University launches a program to train Arabic experts globally

In a move reflecting the growing interest in enhancing the global standing of the Arabic language, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, represented by the "Endowment for the Language of the Holy Qur'an," and in strategic partnership with the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, launched the second edition of its specialized program, "Training Arabic Experts in the World." The launch ceremony was attended by the university president, Dr. Tarif Al-A'ma, and the head of the educational programs sector at the Academy, Professor Dr. Saad Al-Qahtani, underscoring the official and academic significance of this event.

Strategic partnership to serve the Arabic language

This program is an implementation of the memorandum of cooperation signed between the university and the academy, which aims to unify efforts among academic institutions and specialized bodies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This partnership is of particular importance given the pioneering role played by the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language in disseminating Arabic culture and preserving the language, complemented by the long-standing academic expertise of King Abdulaziz University. Through this collaboration, both parties seek to bridge the gap in qualified personnel to teach Arabic to non-native speakers according to the latest international standards.

Program details and training tracks

The program is characterized by its comprehensiveness and intensity, spanning four full weeks and targeting 24 specialists and experts representing 18 countries from around the world. The training content has been meticulously designed to include:

  • 80 training hours: focusing on the skill-based and technical aspects of language teaching.
  • 60 enrichment hours: Includes cultural and interactive activities to deepen cultural understanding.

The program is not limited to the theoretical aspect only, but combines scientific lectures, practical field training, and “peer evaluation” sessions that allow participants to exchange experiences and constructively critique educational experiences, in addition to attending specialized academic lectures within the university.

Strategic dimensions and objectives of Vision 2030

This scientific initiative aligns with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, specifically the program for developing human capabilities and strengthening national identity, given that the Arabic language is the vessel of Islamic and Arab culture. The program aims to:

  1. Developing Arabic as a Second Language Teaching Skills using the latest technologies.
  2. Creating a sustainable international network of communication among Arabic language experts around the world.
  3. Enabling participants to transfer knowledge and localize expertise in their home countries.

Developing future linguistic leaders

The Executive Director of the Endowment for the Language of the Holy Quran at the university, Professor Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sulami, explained that the program is the first of its kind to target "expert practitioners" rather than beginners, thus raising expectations for the outcomes of this training. He pointed out that the ultimate goal is to empower these experts to develop educational curricula and assessment methods in their communities, enabling them to become ambassadors for the Arabic language and its culture, thereby strengthening the Kingdom's soft power and reaffirming its pivotal role as the custodian of the language of the Holy Quran.
