Kadana enhances electrical power networks in the holy sites
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing the quality of services provided to pilgrims, Kadana Development and Investment Company, the executive arm of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites, announced a major achievement: the completion of the construction and development of low- and medium-voltage networks in the Holy Sites. The total capacity of this vital project has reached 550 megavolt-amperes, representing a significant leap forward in Makkah's infrastructure.
Historical context and development of services in Hajj
Throughout history, managing millions of people in a limited geographical area and within a short timeframe has posed a significant challenge, particularly in providing the energy needed for cooling and sustenance. In past decades, the camps in Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah relied on traditional methods and kerosene stoves, which presented an operational burden and a major security risk due to the threat of fires. Therefore, the Saudi Arabian government has undertaken a continuous modernization program, and this achievement is the culmination of a series of development projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the electrical infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted service with the highest standards of reliability and safety.
Project impact on the comfort and safety of pilgrims
This electrical upgrade plays a pivotal role in the gradual replacement of kerosene stoves with safer electric ones, eliminating fire hazards and enhancing public safety in the pilgrims' camps. Furthermore, the project enables the implementation of modern Freon air conditioning systems, replacing traditional evaporative coolers. This development ensures the camps' readiness and full operational efficiency, providing suitable cooling levels that alleviate the intense summer heat, thus guaranteeing the comfort of pilgrims and helping them perform their rituals with ease and complete peace of mind.
Accommodating additional loads and supporting Saudi Vision 2030
The project directly aims to support high-quality development projects and additional spaces allocated for pilgrim accommodation. These efforts are fully aligned with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, specifically the "Guests of God Service Program," which seeks to achieve strategic expansion and comprehensive development of facilities to enable a greater number of Muslims to perform Hajj and Umrah. This massive electrical capacity will help accommodate the additional loads resulting from ongoing development, ensuring the efficient operation of systems and providing all vital sites with the necessary power without any interruption.
A safe and sustainable residential environment that enhances the Kingdom's global standing
Regionally and internationally, this project reflects the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to providing a world-class model for managing temporary cities and massive crowds. The project contributes to providing a safe and comfortable residential environment that enhances the experience of pilgrims and meets all their operational and service needs. This step reflects KADANA's commitment to leading the sustainable development of the Holy Sites by providing integrated engineering solutions that improve infrastructure efficiency. The company continuously strives to provide high-quality services befitting the sanctity of the place and the aspirations of the wise leadership, with a focus on achieving sustainability and quality of life in all facilities of the Holy Sites.
