King Abdulaziz Airport is among the mega airports with record numbers

King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah announced a significant leap in its operational performance, recording unprecedented record figures during February 2026, further solidifying its position as a leading global logistics hub. This achievement reinforces the airport's status as a "Mega Airport," a classification it officially joined at the end of last year, reflecting the rapid growth of the aviation sector in Saudi Arabia.

Record figures reflect operational efficiency

Official statistics revealed that the airport received approximately 4.79 million passengers during February, traveling on more than 27,600 flights, a clear indication of the recovery and growth in air travel. This achievement was not limited to passenger traffic alone, but also included operational efficiency in baggage handling, with the airport's smart systems processing approximately 5.6 million bags with high accuracy and speed.

February 22nd saw the highest operational peak, with the airport recording 185,800 passengers in a single day, while the same month recorded the third highest operational week in the airport’s history with 1.23 million passengers, demonstrating the high capacity of the airport’s infrastructure.

The Two Holy Mosques Gateway and Vision 2030

These figures hold strategic importance that transcends mere statistics; they represent a practical implementation of the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, stemming from the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to increase the capacity of Saudi airports and expand the Kingdom's air connectivity to 250 international destinations. King Abdulaziz International Airport is a cornerstone of this strategy, serving as the primary gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and a vital link between East and West.

Maximum readiness for peak seasons

This exceptional performance coincided with the peak of the Umrah season and preparations for the holy month of Ramadan, prompting Jeddah Airports Company to enhance its operational and human resources readiness by deploying over 10,000 employees to serve pilgrims. The operational plan included maximizing the capacity of the three main terminals, upgrading passport control counters, and improving baggage handling systems and escalators to ensure smooth passenger flow and a comfortable and seamless travel experience for pilgrims and visitors.

The inclusion of Founder’s Airport in the category of mega airports represents a pivotal step in strengthening the national economy, as it contributes to attracting more international airlines and revitalizing the tourism and hospitality sectors, thus supporting sustainable development in the Makkah region and the Kingdom in general.
