Urban Dimensions: King Abdulaziz University connects its students with the job market
A pioneering initiative to empower young talents
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing the integration between educational outcomes and labor market demands, King Abdulaziz University, represented by the Faculty of Architecture and Planning and the Department of Geomatics, is organizing the “Urban Dimensions 2026” exhibition. This important event will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, under the supervision of Dr. Rayan Sahahiri, and is one of the practical outcomes of the “Professional Practice” course, which focuses on preparing students to face future professional challenges.
Background and significance of the event in the context of Vision 2030
This exhibition is being held at a time when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing an unprecedented urban and developmental boom, driven by the objectives of Vision 2030. The Vision aims to diversify the national economy and build a vibrant society, and the construction and urban development sector is considered one of the cornerstones for achieving these goals. With the launch of mega-projects such as NEOM, the Red Sea Project, and Qiddiya, the need for qualified national talent in the fields of architecture, planning, and engineering is growing. Hence, the importance of initiatives like “Urban Dimensions” emerges as a vital bridge connecting young academic talent with the immense opportunities offered by the Saudi market, thus contributing directly to the localization of expertise and the achievement of sustainable development.
Expected impact at both the local and national levels
The exhibition serves as a comprehensive academic and professional platform, combining student creativity with practical application. Participating students showcase diverse projects and experiences that reflect their acquired skills in architecture, planning, design, and modern technologies. The exhibition also focuses on highlighting the concepts of sustainable development and urban identity, keeping pace with modern trends in urban planning both globally and locally. Locally, the exhibition provides students with a valuable opportunity to interact directly with engineering and consulting firms and specialized entities, opening up broad horizons for building professional relationships and exploring training, qualification, and employment opportunities. Nationally, this event contributes to supplying the labor market with young national talent possessing the necessary knowledge and practical skills to actively participate in the Kingdom's urban development.
Opportunities for training and employment
The “Urban Dimensions 2026” exhibition aims to empower students to develop their professional and technical skills. The event includes a number of panel discussions and interactive activities that address the importance of practical training, building a professional identity, and developing students' personal branding skills. Successful student experiences will also be showcased, highlighting the transition from academia to the job market. The college has extended an open invitation to engineering and consulting firms, engineers, and those interested in the urban development field to attend the exhibition and witness the students' creativity and skills, thereby fostering professional and academic collaboration and supporting the empowerment of young national talent to lead the future of the urban development sector in the Kingdom.
