King Fahd Causeway tolls and vehicle insurance via Absher: The comprehensive guide

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts towards digital transformation and streamlining procedures for citizens and residents, the "Absher" electronic platform has launched a new service enabling travelers to pay King Fahd Causeway tolls and purchase insurance policies in advance. This step aims to reduce waiting times at the toll gates and facilitate travel between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Bahrain, reflecting the technological advancements in government services in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

The importance of the King Fahd Causeway and digital transformation

The King Fahd Causeway, officially opened in 1986 and spanning 25 kilometers, is the vital artery connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Given the high traffic volume the bridge experiences, especially during holidays and peak seasons, the automation of payment and pre-verification procedures via the "Absher" platform represents a significant step forward aimed at streamlining traffic flow. This transformation not only benefits tourists but also facilitates trade and the daily commute of employees and students between the two countries.

Requirements and conditions for creating a trip via Absher

To take advantage of the prepaid service and create a travel journey across the bridge, the platform has set several technical and security conditions to ensure the safety of the procedures:

  • Identity verification: The identity of travelers and companions is verified automatically and instantly through linking with the "Nafath" application.
  • Booking timing: The flight must be booked and the fees paid 3 hours or more before the expected travel time.
  • Arrival time: The traveler must actually arrive at the bridge within 3 hours or less of the scheduled time on the trip to ensure validity.

Steps to create a trip and pay fees

Travelers can easily complete the process via the "Absher Individuals" application by following these steps:

  1. Log in to the "Absher" application and select travel services.
  2. Choose the vehicle you wish to travel in and determine the expected travel time.
  3. Add companions (if any) to complete their procedures in advance.
  4. Paying bridge crossing fees and insurance fees in one step.
  5. Complete the initial verification via the "Nafath" application to confirm the trip.

Upon arrival at the bridge, the traveler must use the toll and customs gates specified in the text message he receives, and complete the "spatial verification" step via the Nafath application at the passport booths.

New discount packages for frequent flyers

In a related development, and to ease the financial burden on frequent travelers, the King Fahd Causeway Authority has launched new packages through the "Jisr" app, offering discounts of up to 40%. These packages include a variety of options, most notably the "Frequent Flyer Package" designed for daily or semi-daily travelers.

This package costs 850 riyals and offers a significant discount on transit fees. It is valid for one month or 40 crossings (one way or return), whichever comes first. These packages are scheduled to take effect from the announced date (February 18), enhancing mobility flexibility and strengthening social and economic ties between residents of the Eastern Province and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
