King Khalid Hospital in Tabuk's achievements in 2025: 743,000 laboratory tests

King Khalid Hospital in Tabuk, a key component of the Tabuk Health Cluster achieved a significant leap forward in its laboratory and blood bank services during 2025, setting record figures that reflect the rapid development of the healthcare sector in the Kingdom. These achievements included conducting over 743,000 laboratory tests , directly contributing to increased operational efficiency and improved service quality for patients, in line with the objectives of the healthcare transformation program.

The context of health transformation and Vision 2030

These achievements come within the context of the significant transformation underway in the Saudi Arabian healthcare sector as part of Vision 2030. Health clusters aim to promote the principle of "prevention before treatment" and facilitate access to healthcare services. Developing laboratories and blood banks is a cornerstone of this transformation, given their vital role in accurate diagnosis and rapid medical decision-making, which positively impacts patient safety and reduces waiting times.

Figures reflecting operational efficiency

In detailing the achievement, the Tabuk Health Cluster explained that the hospital conducted 5,657 tests as part of the premarital screening program, with a notable increase in the number of samples by nearly 50%. This reflects the growing community awareness of the importance of these tests in building a healthy society free from genetic diseases. Additionally, 1,622 samples in the histology department, 1,195 samples from forensic medicine, and 365 detailed tests were performed in the electrophoresis department. These efforts culminated in achieving an 88% sample turnaround time within the green zone, confirming the speed and efficiency of the laboratory processes.

Developing the blood donation system

17 blood donation campaigns conducted with broad participation. The bank received 4,448 donors, of whom 3,555 completed successful donations after screening more than 10,000 donors from various governorates in the region. Among the most significant operational achievements was a substantial reduction in blood unit waste from 13% to less than 1% , and a decrease in the time required to issue donor results to less than 18 hours. This ensures the efficient availability of blood units for emergency cases and surgical procedures.

International accreditations and strict safety standards

As a culmination of these efforts, the blood bank at King Khalid Hospital received accreditation from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) , an official recognition of its adherence to the highest standards of quality and safety. Furthermore, a significant initiative was implemented to enhance the safety of healthcare practitioners: issuing infectious disease test results for needlestick injuries within just one hour , compared to the previous timeframe of up to three days. This provides a safer working environment for medical staff and ensures rapid preventative intervention when needed.
