Children's Recitation Challenge 5: King Salman Complex Promotes the Arabic Language
A global initiative to empower new generations with their mother tongue
The King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language has announced the launch of the fifth edition of its leading international competition, the “Children’s Recitation Challenge.” This cultural initiative aims to strengthen the connection of Arabic-speaking children with their mother tongue and hone their talents in recitation and expression. The competition targets children aged 5 to 12 from around the world, and submissions are now open until June 30th, providing ample opportunity for emerging talents to showcase their abilities.
Historical context and institutional efforts to serve the Arabic language
The launch of this edition builds upon the significant successes of the previous four editions, which witnessed growing engagement and broad international participation. In its last edition alone, the competition attracted over 8,000 participants from 30 countries, reflecting the initiative's global impact. This competition is part of the strategic efforts of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, established to be a global authority in serving the Arabic language. These efforts align with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Human Capability Development Program, both of which place paramount importance on preserving the Kingdom's cultural and linguistic identity and enhancing its global presence.
The importance of the competition and its expected impact
The significance of the “Children’s Recitation Challenge” transcends its status as a mere competition, becoming an effective tool for cultural and linguistic influence on multiple levels. Locally, in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Education, the competition contributes to stimulating educational and family environments to cultivate an interest in classical Arabic poetry and develop public speaking skills among young people. Regionally, the initiative strengthens cultural ties among children across the Arab world, creating a shared space to celebrate the beauty of their language and common heritage. Internationally, the competition plays a vital role in connecting children of Arab communities abroad with their mother tongue, presenting a vibrant image of the richness and creativity of the Arabic language to the world, thus reinforcing its position as a living and contemporary language.
Competition objectives and participation mechanism
The Secretary-General of the Academy, Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi, explained that the competition aims to highlight the beauty of the Arabic language through children's performances, enhance its presence on interactive platforms, and enable the public to discover emerging linguistic talents. It also seeks to support and encourage promising talents, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their linguistic and rhetorical abilities. To participate in the competition, parents must record a video of their child, no longer than 5 minutes, reciting a poem of their choice from classical Arabic poetry. At the beginning of the video, the child must state their full name, age, nationality, and country of residence. The video should then be uploaded to the "X" platform, including the Academy's and competition's hashtags: "#KingSalmanGlobalAcademyForArabicLanguage" and "#ChildrensRecitationChallenge5" in the post's text.
