King Salman Center pumps 54 million liters of water in Hajjah and Saada

Introduction to the humanitarian crisis and relief efforts in Yemen

Providing safe drinking water and water for daily use is one of the most significant challenges facing displaced people in Yemen, given the dire humanitarian conditions the country has endured for years, which the United Nations classifies as one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. In this context, and reaffirming the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leading humanitarian role, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center implementing its water supply and environmental sanitation project in several Yemeni governorates, aiming to improve the living and health conditions of thousands of displaced people and host communities, and to provide them with the most basic necessities for a dignified life.

Details of the water supply project in Hajjah Governorate

During February, the center achieved a significant milestone by pumping massive quantities of water to meet the needs of the population. In Hajjah Governorate, relief operations covered the districts of Midi, Haradh, Hayran, and Abs. Field teams pumped 3,775,000 liters of potable water, in addition to 49,876,000 liters of water suitable for daily use. Efforts were not limited to providing water; they also extended to the vital environmental sanitation sector, with 233 truckloads of waste and refuse removed from camps for internally displaced persons. This crucial preventative measure directly contributes to reducing the spread of epidemics and infectious diseases, such as cholera, which are often transmitted through contaminated water or the accumulation of waste in densely populated areas.

Relief statistics in Saada Governorate

In Sa'dah Governorate, the center's humanitarian efforts focused on the Al-Azhour camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Razih District, where 393,400 liters of potable water and 280,000 liters of water suitable for other uses were pumped. The total number of beneficiaries of these vital and ongoing services in both governorates reached 30,100 individuals, reflecting the significant and direct positive impact on the lives of these residents who depend almost entirely on this aid for their survival.

Strategic importance and regional and international influence

The importance of this humanitarian initiative lies on several interconnected levels. Locally, the project contributes to saving the lives of thousands of Yemenis and alleviating their daily suffering and the hardship of searching for clean water. Regionally, this ongoing effort underscores the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment to the stability of Yemen and its support for its brotherly people during their most difficult times, thus strengthening the security and stability of the entire region. Internationally, these initiatives and projects are fully aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 6, which focuses on ensuring access to water and sanitation for all. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre's continued provision of this assistance reflects a comprehensive strategy aimed at transitioning from immediate relief to supporting sustainable development and providing a safe and healthy environment that guarantees a better future for generations to come in Yemen.
