The Kremlin: Russian parliamentarians are visiting the United States to revive relations between the two countries

The Kremlin announced on Thursday that a number of Russian parliamentarians are visiting the United States in an attempt to revive relations between Moscow and Washington .

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: “We hope that these first test steps will contribute to reviving our bilateral cooperation.”.

Russian parliamentarians are expected to meet with their American counterparts in Washington this week, according to Russian media.
No official visit by Russian parliamentarians to the United States has been made for several years.

Washington sanctions on Russian officials

Washington is imposing sanctions on numerous Russian officials starting in 2022 in connection with Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Since Donald Trump’s return to the White House in early 2025, several attempts to end the war in Ukraine have failed, as the Kremlin has ruled out any settlement that could end its offensive.

Names of the Russian delegation

Leonid Slutsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR), which is considered part of the parliamentary opposition but effectively supports Russian President Vladimir Putin, named three members of the Russian delegation: Boris Chernyshov, deputy speaker of parliament, and deputies Vyacheslav Nikonov and Svetlana Jourova.

Peskov confirmed that Putin had outlined the general framework for the visit, and that he would be briefed in detail on the outcome of the delegation's meetings in the United States.
