King Salman Relief Center concludes the Sama'a volunteer project in Türkiye
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center announced the conclusion of its volunteer hearing project in Turkey, which aimed to provide specialized hearing care to those affected in Hatay Province. The campaign, held from May 17 to 21 with the participation of a Saudi volunteer medical team, successfully reached 371 beneficiaries, offering them hope for regaining their hearing and significantly improving their quality of life.
Saudi humanitarian efforts extend across borders
This project is part of a series of humanitarian initiatives led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, which was established in 2015 as a leading international center for coordinating and delivering relief aid. This initiative is particularly significant as it targets Hatay Province, one of the areas most affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey in February 2013. In the aftermath of the disaster, medical and health needs increased, including care for people with hearing impairments who lost their hearing aids or suffered health problems that exacerbated their condition. The project's implementation in the cities of Samandağ, Defne, and Reyhanlı reflects the Centre's commitment to reaching the most vulnerable populations in crisis zones and providing sustainable support that goes beyond immediate aid.
Comprehensive hearing care restores hope to beneficiaries
The volunteer medical team's services extended beyond simply distributing hearing aids; they included a comprehensive treatment program. The process began with thorough examinations to diagnose each individual's condition and determine the degree of hearing loss. Based on these assessments, precise measurements were taken to create customized hearing molds, followed by programming the digital hearing aids to suit each beneficiary's specific needs. The medical team also provided specialized consultations to patients and their families on how to use and care for the devices, in addition to auditory rehabilitation sessions designed to help beneficiaries adapt to their new equipment and maximize its benefits in their daily lives.
Beyond just hearing aids: The impact of the Sama'a volunteer project in Türkiye
The humanitarian impact of an initiative like the Samaa Volunteer Project in Turkey extends far beyond the immediate medical aspect. Restoring hearing opens new horizons for beneficiaries; it enables children to integrate into the educational process and communicate with their peers, and gives adults greater opportunities to find employment and participate effectively in their communities. Internationally, this project reinforces the Kingdom's position as a key player in global humanitarian work and showcases a successful model of humanitarian diplomacy that builds bridges of cooperation and fraternity between peoples. The project also represents a practical application of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the goal related to ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.
