King Salman Center distributes 25,000 hot meals to displaced people in Gaza
As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 25,000 hot meals to displaced families and the most vulnerable groups in central and southern Gaza. This initiative, carried out through the center's central kitchen, is part of the Saudi public campaign to aid the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, aiming to alleviate the severe food crisis affecting the population.
The general context and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza
This aid comes at a critical time for the Gaza Strip, which is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Recent events have displaced hundreds of thousands of residents, destroyed infrastructure, and led to severe shortages of basic necessities such as food, water, and medicine. Numerous international organizations, including the United Nations, have warned of an imminent famine threatening the lives of the population, particularly children and the elderly, making urgent food aid a vital lifeline for many families who have lost their livelihoods and homes.
The role of the Kingdom and the King Salman Relief Center
This aid is an extension of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s historical role in supporting the Palestinian cause and providing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people. Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has played a pivotal role as the Kingdom’s humanitarian arm, implementing hundreds of projects in dozens of countries around the world. The current public campaign is being conducted through the Center’s “Sahem” platform, which has enabled citizens and residents of the Kingdom to contribute directly to supporting their brothers and sisters in Palestine, reflecting the strong popular and official solidarity with the cause.
The importance of aid and its expected impact
Locally, these meals directly contribute to meeting the daily needs of affected families, providing a source of energy and safe food amidst the collapse of food security. They also send a message of solidarity and hope to the besieged population, assuring them that they are not alone in facing this ordeal. Regionally and internationally, these efforts reinforce the Kingdom's position as a key player in global humanitarian action, highlighting its commitment to the principles of humanitarian assistance based on neutrality and non-discrimination, and underscoring its role in supporting regional stability by alleviating human suffering in conflict zones.
