Saudi food aid reaches 8,610 beneficiaries in Marib, Yemen
As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the brotherly Yemeni people, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 1,230 food baskets in Al-Wadi District, Marib Governorate, benefiting 8,610 individuals from the most vulnerable and displaced families. This aid comes within the second phase of the Emergency Food Interventions Project in Yemen, which aims to enhance food security and alleviate the severity of the humanitarian suffering in the country.
Background to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen
This aid comes at a critical time, as Yemen has been suffering for years from one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, according to UN reports. The ongoing conflict has led to the collapse of the economy and the destruction of infrastructure, pushing millions of people to the brink of famine. Marib governorate is one of the areas hosting the largest number of internally displaced persons, with hundreds of thousands of people fleeing conflict zones seeking refuge there. This has placed immense pressure on limited resources and exacerbated the urgent need for food, shelter, and health assistance.
The importance of aid and its direct impact
The distribution of food baskets is a lifeline for beneficiary families, as each basket contains essential items such as flour, rice, sugar, and vegetable oil—enough to meet the needs of an average family for several weeks. This support directly contributes to combating malnutrition, particularly among children and women, and provides families with a sense of security and temporary stability amidst harsh living conditions. It also alleviates the financial burden on families who have lost their sources of income, allowing them to direct their limited resources toward other essential needs such as health and education.
The role of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center regionally and internationally
Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has played a pivotal role as the humanitarian arm of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, implementing hundreds of projects in Yemen across vital sectors such as food security, health, water and sanitation, education, and shelter. The Centre's role extends beyond providing emergency assistance to include development projects aimed at rebuilding local capacities and strengthening the resilience of affected communities. These ongoing efforts reflect the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to standing with the Yemeni people and underscore its leading role in humanitarian work at both the regional and international levels, coordinating with UN agencies and international organizations to ensure that aid reaches those who need it effectively and transparently.
