King Salman Relief Center distributes food baskets in Somalia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues its leading humanitarian efforts internationally, with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributing 510 food baskets in the Heland region of Puntland State in the Federal Republic of Somalia. This urgent assistance benefited 3,060 individuals from the most vulnerable groups, as part of the current year's food security support project in Somalia.

General context and historical background of relief work in Somalia

The Horn of Africa, and specifically the Republic of Somalia, has suffered from successive humanitarian crises over the past decades. Repeated droughts, severe climate change, and economic and security challenges have severely impacted the agricultural and livestock sectors. This situation has left millions of Somalis facing food insecurity and malnutrition.

Since its establishment Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has placed Somalia among its humanitarian priorities. The Center has implemented dozens of relief and development projects in Somalia, encompassing the food, health, shelter, water, and sanitation sectors, reflecting the Kingdom's longstanding commitment to standing with the brotherly Somali people during various crises and hardships.

The importance of the event and its local and regional impact

At the local level, the distribution of these food baskets in Puntland represents a lifeline for many impoverished and displaced families. Each food basket contains essential items sufficient to meet a family's nutritional needs for several weeks, directly contributing to reducing malnutrition rates, especially among children, women, and the elderly, and enhancing their resilience in the face of difficult living conditions.

At the regional and international levels, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center's implementation of its humanitarian programs underscores the Kingdom's leading role as one of the world's largest aid donors. These efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the goal of eradicating hunger. Furthermore, these initiatives contribute to strengthening regional stability in the Horn of Africa, where food security is a fundamental pillar for achieving social peace.

Sustainable efforts to support global food security

This latest distribution is part of a continuous series of relief and humanitarian projects undertaken by the Kingdom through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, to assist countries in need around the world. These efforts extend beyond providing immediate relief to include sustainable projects aimed at building the capacity of local communities, providing dignified livelihoods, and supporting infrastructure to ensure that humanitarian crises do not recur in the future. The Kingdom's humanitarian message transcends geographical boundaries, offering a global model of solidarity and human compassion.
