King Salman Relief Center distributes food baskets in North Kordofan
Ongoing efforts by the King Salman Relief Center in Sudan
As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing humanitarian efforts to support brotherly and friendly nations, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its vital assistance in the Republic of Sudan. The Center distributed 1,200 food baskets in the Sheikan locality of North Kordofan State, helping to meet the basic needs of 6,885 displaced and vulnerable individuals.
The humanitarian context and the displacement crisis in North Kordofan
This relief effort comes at a time when Sudan is experiencing one of the most complex humanitarian crises in its modern history. Since the outbreak of armed conflict in mid-April 2023, the country has witnessed unprecedented waves of internal displacement, with millions forced to flee their homes in search of safety. North Kordofan State, and Sheikan locality in particular, has received large numbers of these displaced people, placing immense pressure on limited local resources and exacerbating food insecurity. Relief intervention in these areas is a true lifeline for families who have lost their sources of income and basic necessities.
Madad Project: A Sustainable Vision for Food Security
This aid falls under the strategic “Madad Project” implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in the Republic of Sudan, with an operational plan extending until 2026. This ambitious project aims to ensure sustainable food security and provide a social safety net for the most vulnerable groups. The distributed food baskets contain essential goods sufficient for a family for a considerable period, alleviating daily hardship and ensuring that children, women, and the elderly receive proper nutrition to prevent malnutrition.
The Kingdom's leading role in humanitarian work
This initiative is not unusual for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has consistently stood by the Sudanese people in various hardships and crises. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the Kingdom's humanitarian arm, initiated air and sea bridges from the very beginning of the Sudanese crisis, delivering thousands of tons of medical, food, and shelter aid. This commitment reflects the generous directives of the Saudi leadership to stand with those in need wherever they may be, without discrimination, and to alleviate the burdens on affected populations.
The local and international impact of Saudi aid
Locally, this support has a direct and positive impact on improving the living conditions of thousands of families in Sheikan, restoring some of their lost stability. Regionally and internationally, these efforts are closely aligned with the appeals of the United Nations and international organizations aimed at addressing the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. By providing food and medicine, the Kingdom is contributing to strengthening social stability and mitigating the negative repercussions of the crisis, reaffirming its global leadership in humanitarian and relief work and its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, foremost among them the eradication of hunger.
