Food aid from the King Salman Relief Center arrives in Lahj, Yemen
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its tireless efforts to support the brotherly Yemeni people, distributing 3,240 complete food baskets to the most vulnerable and displaced families in Tur al-Bahah District, Lahj Governorate. This aid is part of the second phase of the Emergency Food Intervention Project in Yemen, benefiting 22,680 individuals and contributing to alleviating their suffering and providing for their basic food needs.
Critical humanitarian situation in Yemen
This initiative comes amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which the United Nations has described as one of the world's worst. The conflict has led to widespread economic collapse and a severe deterioration of infrastructure and basic services, leaving millions of Yemenis entirely dependent on humanitarian aid for survival. Large segments of the population suffer from severe food insecurity, with high rates of malnutrition, particularly among children and women, making urgent food assistance a vital lifeline.
Pivotal role of the King Salman Relief Center
Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has played a leading role in coordinating and delivering Saudi aid to affected populations around the world, with a particular focus on Yemen. The Centre's efforts have extended beyond food aid to encompass vital sectors such as health, water and sanitation, education, and shelter. These efforts are an integral part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's humanitarian commitment to Yemen, aimed at alleviating the suffering of civilians and supporting their stability and resilience in the face of harsh conditions.
Project importance and expected impact
The emergency food intervention project is of paramount importance at both the local and regional levels. Locally, these food baskets, containing essential items such as flour, rice, sugar, and oil, provide temporary food security for beneficiary families, enabling them to meet their daily needs and protecting them from the threat of hunger. Regionally and internationally, these initiatives reflect the Kingdom's active humanitarian role and underscore the importance of international solidarity in addressing crises. This aid also contributes to strengthening relative stability in affected areas by meeting the basic needs of the population, thus mitigating social tensions arising from resource scarcity.
