King Salman Center distributes winter clothing vouchers to displaced people in Marib

As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center implementing its impactful relief programs, distributing 1,850 vouchers for winter clothing in Marib Governorate. This proactive step comes as the cold weather intensifies, enabling beneficiary families to secure their essential winter clothing needs.
"Kanaf" Project: A Safety Net for Displaced People
This initiative benefited 1,850 displaced individuals living in camps, as part of the winter clothing distribution project in the Republic of Yemen known as "Kanaf." The project, in its current and future phases until 2026, aims to provide warmth to the most vulnerable families and protect them from illnesses related to cold weather, especially children and the elderly, who are considered the most affected groups in such harsh climatic conditions.
The importance of timing and the humanitarian context in Marib
This aid is of particular strategic importance given the demographic and humanitarian situation in Marib Governorate. Marib is the largest host to internally displaced persons in Yemen, sheltering hundreds of thousands of families who have fled various conflict zones. With the onset of winter, temperatures drop significantly in the desert and mountainous areas of the governorate, exacerbating the suffering of those living in tents and makeshift shelters that lack even the most basic insulation.
The voucher system: Support for the local economy and dignity for the beneficiary
This project is distinguished by its adoption of a "voucher" mechanism instead of direct in-kind distribution of clothing. This mechanism represents an advanced model in relief work that achieves two main objectives:
- First: Preserving the dignity of the beneficiary and giving him the freedom to choose what suits him and his family members in terms of sizes and tastes, instead of imposing specific items on him.
- Second: To stimulate commercial activity in the local markets of Marib Governorate, which contributes to supporting small traders and boosting the economic activity in the targeted region.
The Kingdom's leading role in relief work
This support is an extension of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's historical and leading role in supporting the Yemeni people in all fields. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center is the humanitarian arm implementing hundreds of projects covering food security, health, shelter, water, and sanitation. This ongoing assistance underscores the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to standing with its brothers and sisters in Yemen to overcome the current humanitarian crisis and strengthen their resilience in the face of economic and social challenges.
