King Salman Center launches food basket project in 4 countries for 2026

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s leading role in international humanitarian work, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued its ongoing efforts to provide assistance to those in need around the world. The Center launched its 2026 Food Basket Project in four countries: Guinea, Djibouti, Mauritania, and Cambodia. This initiative is part of the Kingdom’s strategy to enhance food security and meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable populations across different continents.
Project launch in Guinea Conakry
The campaign launched its activities in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, where the project was inaugurated in the presence of the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Guinea, Dr. Fahad bin Eid Al-Rashidi, and the National Director of Islamic Affairs at the General Secretariat, Dr. Suleiman Sidi Bey. This aspect of the project aims to distribute 8,400 complete food baskets, expected to benefit approximately 50,000 individuals across the cities of Conakry, Debreka, Mamou, Kankan, and Nzerkory. This aid is a crucial pillar in supporting family stability and providing for their daily needs amidst economic challenges.

Comprehensive food support in Djibouti
In the Horn of Africa, specifically in the Republic of Djibouti, the Center launched the “Food Basket 5” project for 2026. The launch ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Djibouti, Mutrik bin Abdullah Al-Ajaleen, and Her Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs and Solidarity, Aloufa Ismail Abdou. The plan aims to distribute 6,715 food baskets containing essential items, reaching 40,000 beneficiaries in several regions. This reflects the deep fraternal relations between the two countries and the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the brotherly people of Djibouti.

Expanding the scope of aid in Mauritania
Saudi Arabia's humanitarian efforts have extended to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, where the "Food Basket 5" project was launched in the capital, Nouakchott, in the presence of Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Raqabi and Assistant Commissioner for Food Security, Lamam Abdou. Through this initiative, the center aims to distribute 8,402 food baskets , which will benefit, God willing, 42,000 individuals across several provinces, thus contributing to bridging the food gap and supporting the livelihoods of vulnerable families.

Aid arrives in Cambodia
In Asia, the center launched the project in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, in the presence of Abdullah Al-Houshan, Chargé d'Affaires at the Kingdom's Embassy in Vietnam (non-resident in Cambodia), and His Excellency Dr. Othman Hassan, Cambodian Minister in charge of Islamic Affairs. The project aims to distribute 8,850 food baskets , covering the needs of more than 53,000 individuals in nine different regions, thus underscoring the universality of the Kingdom's humanitarian message, which transcends race and religion.
The importance of the project and its humanitarian dimensions
The “Food Basket” project is of strategic importance as it focuses on providing essential food items that are vital to the lives of needy families. These initiatives are in line with the directives of the wise leadership – may God support them – to enhance global food security and support brotherly and friendly nations in facing economic crises and natural disasters, thus solidifying the Kingdom’s position as one of the world’s largest donors of humanitarian aid.
