King Salman Relief Center's efforts: Operating medical clinics in Saada
Continued humanitarian aid in Yemen
continues The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center its pioneering efforts in supporting the health sector in Yemen by maintaining mobile and fixed medical clinics in the Razih district of Saada Governorate. This initiative complements the humanitarian efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to stand with the brotherly Yemeni people during these difficult times and to provide essential healthcare to the most vulnerable areas.
General context and historical background of humanitarian intervention
Since the outbreak of the Yemeni crisis, the health sector has suffered a sharp decline, leading to the closure of numerous hospitals and medical facilities and a severe shortage of medicines and essential supplies. In response to this critical humanitarian situation, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center was established as the primary umbrella organization for the Kingdom's external relief efforts. The Center has prioritized Yemen, implementing hundreds of health, food, and shelter projects. Sa'dah Governorate, specifically the Razih District, faces significant geographical and security challenges that make access to healthcare extremely difficult, highlighting the critical importance of the Center's clinics there in saving lives and alleviating suffering.
Details of medical services provided during February
Official statistics released by the center show that medical clinics in Razih district provided services to 626 individuals during February. These services covered a range of medical specialties essential to meet the needs of the local population, and the distribution was as follows:
- The Epidemic Disease Control Clinic received (217) patients, which reflects the efforts made to reduce the spread of epidemics that are usually active in conflict environments.
- Emergency Clinic: Provided urgent medical care to (141) patients.
- Internal Medicine Clinic: (165) patients visited it to obtain the appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
- Reproductive Health Clinic: Received (33) cases, which contributes to the care of mothers and pregnant women in light of the shortage of specialized staff.
- The Health Awareness and Education Department: (70) individuals benefited from it to promote community awareness for disease prevention.
Accompanying services and nursing care
In addition to the specialized clinics, the support departments played a vital role in completing the treatment cycle. The nursing services department saw 236 individuals, while free medications and prescriptions were dispensed to 541 patients. The surgery and dressing department received 4 patients. To maintain a healthy environment and prevent contamination, the field teams carried out 8 activities dedicated to the safe disposal of medical waste, a necessary measure to prevent the spread of infection.
The importance of the event and its expected impact
At the local level, the operation of these clinics represents a lifeline for thousands of families in the Razih district, reducing mortality rates from treatable diseases and alleviating the financial burden on citizens. Regionally, controlling epidemic diseases in Sa'dah prevents their spread to neighboring governorates, thus strengthening regional health security. Internationally, these efforts underscore the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to international humanitarian treaties and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and highlight the role of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre as an active and influential partner in the global humanitarian system.
