King Salman Center launches educational and medical projects in Yemen
As part of the ongoing humanitarian efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the brotherly Yemeni people, the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid to implement a series of vital projects targeting the education and health sectors in the governorates of Lahj and Taiz, in order to alleviate the suffering of citizens and improve their living conditions in light of the current situation.
Supporting the educational process in Lahj
The center launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing the educational environment, distributing 671 complete school bags to students of Al-Muhsinia School in Al-Hawta District, Lahj Governorate. This distribution is part of a broader project targeting the educational process in Al-Hawta and Tuban districts for the 2026 academic year.
This initiative is of paramount importance given the challenges facing the education sector in Yemen, where UN reports indicate a significant dropout rate among children due to a lack of supplies and dire economic conditions. The Kingdom's interventions, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, aim to bridge this gap by providing essential supplies for students and teachers, directly contributing to creating a conducive learning environment that encourages Yemeni students to attend school regularly and continue their education – a true investment in Yemen's future.
Agreement to operate the prosthetic limb center in Taiz
On the medical front, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center signed a joint cooperation agreement with the International Association for the Care of Victims of Wars and Disasters to implement the eighth phase of the project to operate the prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation center in Taiz Governorate. The agreement was signed virtually by the Assistant Supervisor General of the Center for Operations and Programs, Engineer Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, and the Chairman of the Association's Board of Directors, Dr. Muawiya Mahmoud Harsouni.
Taiz Governorate is among the Yemeni governorates most affected by the ongoing siege and conflict, leading to a surge in injuries and amputations caused by landmines and unexploded ordnance. This agreement offers a lifeline to thousands of those affected, with the project aiming to provide services to 8,050 individuals.
Project objectives and its societal impact
The signed agreement aims to provide comprehensive healthcare for people with special needs, including:
- Providing physical rehabilitation services and follow-up care to ensure their integration into society.
- Determining individual treatment plans for each patient and fitting prosthetic limbs of various types.
- Providing functional rehabilitation services for prosthetic and orthotic limbs.
- Raising the professional and scientific efficiency of the local medical staff to deal with complex and specialized cases.
This support reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s firm commitment to standing by the Yemeni people in their plight, as the King Salman Center’s assistance is not limited to urgent relief, but extends to include developmental and sustainable projects aimed at rebuilding people and places, and mitigating the social and economic effects of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
