In a new humanitarian initiative reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting humanitarian work in the region, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center , represented by its Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs, Engineer Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, signed two cooperation agreements with civil society organizations. These agreements, signed virtually, aim to rehabilitate two schools and vital community facilities in the Rif Dimashq and Idlib of the Syrian Arab Republic.
Project details and beneficiaries

The rehabilitation includes furnishing the buildings and equipping them with solar energy 4,570 individuals will directly benefit from this project , in addition to 23,272 indirectly benefiting residents of the targeted areas, thus enhancing access to education and community services.
The context of the crisis and the challenges of education in Syria
This initiative comes at a time when Syria’s education sector is facing immense challenges as a result of years of conflict and instability. UN and international reports indicate that Syria’s educational infrastructure has suffered extensive damage, rendering hundreds of schools unusable and depriving thousands of children of their right to education. Rehabilitating schools is a crucial step not only for students to return to their classrooms but also for repairing the social fabric and providing a safe environment for children, protecting them from dropping out and child labor.
Educational Asset Recovery Program
These agreements fall under a broader program adopted by the center entitled “ Educational Assets Restoration Program in Syria .” This ambitious program currently aims to rehabilitate and rebuild 47 schools across various Syrian governorates. The program seeks to empower local organizations and restore the educational and community role of institutions, thereby contributing to long-term stability and supporting human development in affected areas.
The Kingdom's leading role in humanitarian work
These projects underscore the leading role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, in providing assistance to those in need without discrimination. The significance of these interventions lies in their focus on sustainable development and reconstruction projects, rather than solely on emergency relief aid, thus empowering affected communities with the tools necessary to recover and build a better future.
