The King Salman Center supports education in Chad with an agreement for 23,000 students

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts around the world, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center signed a joint cooperation agreement today with a civil society organization aimed at supporting and strengthening the education sector in the Republic of Chad. This step comes in response to the urgent needs in areas suffering from a lack of educational infrastructure, and this vital project will benefit approximately 23,000 displaced and vulnerable students.

Details of the agreement and targeted areas

The agreement was signed at the center's headquarters in Riyadh by the Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs, Engineer Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz. Under the terms of this agreement, efforts will be made to improve the educational environment by providing essential supplies, including school uniforms, school bags, and desks. The project covers a wide geographical area encompassing vital and affected regions in Chad, namely: the Lake Chad region, the capital N'Djamena, Hadjer Lamis, Batha, Kanem, Mayo-Kebbi East, and Logone Occidental.

The importance of supporting education in the context of crises

This project is of paramount importance given the current context in Chad and the Sahel region. Chad is known to host large numbers of refugees and internally displaced persons due to regional tensions and harsh climatic conditions, placing immense pressure on public services, particularly the education sector. Providing a stable learning environment for displaced children is essential to protecting them from ignorance and extremism, and to ensuring a better future for them and their families. UN reports consistently indicate that education is the first line of defense in the face of protracted humanitarian crises.

The Kingdom's leading role in humanitarian work

This agreement falls within a series of integrated humanitarian and relief projects provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. The Center's efforts extend beyond urgent food and medical assistance to include sustainable development projects such as supporting education, providing clean drinking water, and fostering economic empowerment. These efforts reflect the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to supporting its sisterly and friendly nations and actively contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

This project is expected to contribute to reducing school dropout rates in the targeted areas, and to alleviate the economic burden on thousands of families who are unable to provide school supplies for their children, thus enhancing learning opportunities and social stability in those fragile communities.
