King Salman Center and Britain sign agreement to care for Gaza children

King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and Britain: A strategic partnership to support Gaza

In a highly significant humanitarian step reflecting the commitment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom to alleviating human suffering, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, met with Baroness Jenny Chapman, Minister of State for International Development at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. This fruitful meeting took place on the sidelines of the Global Partnerships Conference 2026 in London, where the current humanitarian situation and ways to provide urgent support were discussed.

Details of the announcement regarding the care of injured children in Gaza

The meeting concluded with the signing of a joint declaration of intent by both sides, primarily aimed at providing care for children injured in Gaza as a result of the ongoing tragic events. During the meeting, the two parties discussed a number of issues of mutual interest related to relief and humanitarian affairs, and explored ways to strengthen bilateral partnerships to support humanitarian work in countries in need, with a particular focus on the Gaza Strip, which is suffering from an unprecedented health crisis requiring concerted international efforts.

The humanitarian context and the regional and international importance of the event

This agreement comes at a critical time, as the Gaza Strip has witnessed a sharp deterioration in its health infrastructure and a severe shortage of essential medical supplies since late 2023. International reports from UN agencies indicate that children are the primary victims of this crisis, with thousands suffering severe injuries resulting in amputations. The significance of this joint declaration lies in its provision of a specialized and sustainable response, reflecting the leading and ongoing role of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre at both the regional and international levels in crisis response, and underscoring the UK's commitment to supporting international development and protecting the most vulnerable.

Expanding strategic partnerships and treatment programs

Under this announcement, the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and the UK will be expanded to fund and implement vital humanitarian projects. These projects focus on the care of injured children in the Gaza Strip, particularly given the increasing number of amputees. A major medical challenge in these cases is the frequent and ongoing need for prosthetic limb replacements to accommodate the children's continued physical growth. This requires long-term medical care and close monitoring to ensure their integration and ability to lead as normal a life as possible.

Imperial College London's role in medical implementation

The agreement not only includes the provision of prosthetic limbs but also emergency surgical care and treatment for the injured, along with support for Gaza's dilapidated healthcare infrastructure. It also encompasses advanced infection control and prevention programs, as well as operational support and training for local medical personnel to enhance their capacity to manage complex injuries. To ensure the highest standards of medical quality, these specialized programs will be implemented in collaboration with Imperial College London, one of the world's leading academic and medical institutions, guaranteeing the delivery of advanced, scientifically grounded healthcare.
