The finals of the Made in Saudi Arabia hackathon kick off in Medina
“Made in Saudi Arabia” hackathon kicked off this morning, Wednesday, with major support and sponsorship from the Trainees Fund. This event represents a significant step in supporting technological and industrial innovation in the region, where participating teams compete to present creative solutions that serve national industry.
Competition and participation details
The final stage, scheduled to last for two consecutive days, witnessed the outstanding participation of fifteen teams who successfully reached this crucial phase. These teams qualified after completing an intensive preparatory phase that included a series of specialized training workshops. These workshops aimed to refine the participants' skills and enhance their readiness in vital areas such as technology, innovation, handicrafts, and environmental sustainability concepts, in addition to fostering teamwork and developing innovative solutions that align with the demands of the local market.
Context of the national vision and the importance of the event
This hackathon gains its significance from its close connection to the “Made in Saudi Arabia” program, a national initiative stemming from the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP) within the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. These initiatives aim to make Saudi products the preferred choice locally and regionally, and to stimulate investment in the industrial sector. Organizing such events in educational and training institutions, like the Girls’ Technical College, demonstrates the strategic direction towards empowering Saudi women and actively engaging them in the manufacturing and digital innovation ecosystem.
Arbitration mechanism and expected impact
The final stage of the hackathon involves the qualifying teams attending intensive in-person workshops at the college to finalize their projects. The event concludes with detailed discussions and evaluations of the projects before a specialized judging panel comprised of leading experts in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The hackathon's outcomes are expected to produce scalable prototypes that can be developed into successful startups, thereby enhancing local content, creating new job opportunities, and contributing to economic development in the Madinah region and the Kingdom as a whole.
