The city's governor inaugurates the "Hijra in the Footsteps of the Prophet" exhibition next to the Quba Mosque

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Madinah and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Madinah Development Authority, inaugurated the “Migration in the Footsteps of the Prophet (peace be upon him)” exhibition at its new location next to Quba Mosque. The opening ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah, and His Excellency Turki bin Abdulmohsen Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority, in a prominent cultural event that embodies the importance of Islamic history.
This exhibition is the result of a strategic collaboration between the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) – an initiative of Saudi Aramco – the Madinah Region Development Authority, and Milaf International, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund. The project aims to highlight one of the most pivotal events in Islamic and human history: the Prophet's migration (Hijra).
A journey through time and precise scientific documentation
The exhibition offers a unique educational and interactive experience, taking visitors on a journey that recreates the Prophet's migration route, spanning approximately 400 kilometers and lasting eight days. Through 14 interactive stations, the details of this momentous journey are presented in a style that blends meticulous historical documentation with contemporary storytelling, based on extensive scientific research conducted by leading local and international experts and researchers.
Cultural and civilizational dimensions of the exhibition
The exhibition goes beyond a mere historical narrative, highlighting the cultural and humanitarian dimensions of the Prophet's migration and how it transformed the social, political, and economic landscape of the Arabian Peninsula, paving the way for the establishment of the Islamic state. The exhibition features a rich collection of artifacts, including 53 artworks created by over 70 artists from 20 different countries, reflecting the global impact of this historical event.
The exhibition also includes a screening of a special documentary film previously shown at the Islamic Arts Biennale, as well as a bilingual (Arabic and English) documentary book titled “The Hijra in the Footsteps of the Prophet.” To enhance the experience, virtual reality technology has been employed to allow visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Hijra as if they were part of the event.
Strategic location and tourist importance
The exhibition gains added significance from its strategic location next to Quba Mosque, the first mosque founded on piety, offering visitors a comprehensive spiritual and cultural experience. This project is part of efforts to enrich the experience of pilgrims and visitors to Madinah, in line with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to promote cultural and religious tourism and highlight the Kingdom's rich heritage as a global tourist destination that embraces the most important Islamic landmarks.
