Kidney dialysis services for pilgrims in Medina during the Hajj season
In a move reflecting its unwavering commitment to providing the highest levels of healthcare to pilgrims, the Madinah Health Cluster announced the allocation of a fully equipped dialysis unit at the King Fahd Hospital Kidney Center, as part of its comprehensive preparations for the Hajj season. The unit is equipped with 13 state-of-the-art dialysis machines and has a capacity of up to 25 sessions per day, ensuring uninterrupted treatment for pilgrims suffering from kidney disease.
Historical background of serving the pilgrims
This initiative is an extension of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s longstanding efforts to serve pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah, which it considers a religious duty and a great honor. Over the decades, the Kingdom has invested heavily in developing the healthcare infrastructure in Makkah and Madinah, establishing a comprehensive healthcare system capable of handling the logistical and health challenges associated with hosting millions of people annually. All medical services, from first aid to complex surgeries, are provided free of charge to all pilgrims, embodying the Kingdom’s values of generosity and responsibility.
The importance and expected impact of the new service
Providing this specialized service is of paramount importance on several levels. On a humanitarian level, this center is a lifeline for pilgrims suffering from kidney failure, as interrupting their regular dialysis sessions could endanger their lives. This facility allows them to perform their rituals with peace of mind and ease, while ensuring they receive the necessary medical care. Regionally and internationally, this step enhances the Kingdom's reputation as a leading destination in crowd management and integrated service provision, and sends a clear message to the global Muslim community that the health and safety of pilgrims is a top priority.
In line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030
These efforts align directly with the objectives of the “Guests of God Service Program,” one of the key programs of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to enrich and enhance the Hajj and Umrah experience. Providing advanced and easily accessible healthcare is a fundamental pillar for improving the quality of life for pilgrims and enabling them to perform their rituals under the best possible conditions. This development also reflects the Saudi healthcare sector’s commitment to transforming and improving the quality of services provided, not only to citizens and residents, but also to visitors of the Two Holy Mosques.
Full readiness and comprehensive services
The Madinah Health Cluster confirmed that the hemodialysis unit at King Fahd Hospital operates around the clock to receive urgent and emergency cases, ensuring rapid medical intervention when needed. The services provided include a variety of treatment pathways not limited to hemodialysis, but also peritoneal dialysis, in addition to close monitoring of kidney transplant patients, thus providing a comprehensive and safe care system for pilgrims.
