Makkah Education distributes 10,000 seedlings as part of the agricultural nursery initiative
In a move reflecting the commitment of educational institutions to promoting environmental sustainability, the General Directorate of Education in the Makkah Region, represented by its Community Responsibility Department, launched a unique initiative entitled "The Agricultural Nursery." This initiative aims to distribute more than 10,000 seedlings to various schools in the region, in a concerted effort to improve the school environment and enhance the quality of life within educational facilities.
In line with the Saudi Green Initiative
This initiative comes within a broader national context, aligning directly with the objectives of the "Saudi Green Initiative" launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, which aims to plant 10 billion trees in the Kingdom over the coming decades. Schools are key incubators for instilling this culture, as transforming schoolyards into green spaces contributes to combating desertification, reducing temperatures, and improving air quality, making Makkah a model to be emulated in implementing environmental initiatives within the government sector.
Educational and psychological dimensions of the green environment
The goals of the "Agricultural Nursery" initiative extend beyond aesthetics to encompass profound educational and psychological dimensions. It is scientifically proven that green learning environments effectively contribute to the mental well-being of both students and teachers, helping to reduce stress levels and increase concentration. This initiative also provides a golden opportunity to shift education from enclosed classrooms to open spaces, thereby promoting applied learning and developing agricultural and teamwork skills among young people.
Investing in space and achieving Vision 2030
The initiative strategically focuses on investing in unused spaces within schools and transforming them into productive gardens and visual attractions, which is at the heart of the “Quality of Life” program, one of the most important programs of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. The Makkah Education Department seeks, through linking the nursery to training programs, to build a generation that is aware of climate issues and understands its responsibility towards the planet, thus consolidating the values of belonging and good citizenship through sustainable practical practices.
