1.8 million visitors to Mecca's prayer sites in the middle of Ramadan: official statistics

The Royal Commission for Mecca and the Holy Sites announced new record figures reflecting the massive influx of visitors to the Holy City during the current Ramadan season. Operational data revealed that the Miqat (designated points for entering the state of Ihram) and the mosques within the Haram (the area surrounding Mecca) received approximately 1,855,775 visitors by the middle of the holy month. These figures confirm the success of the operational plans implemented to accommodate the increased crowds during this blessed month.

Religious context and strategic importance

This announcement is particularly significant given the spiritual importance of Mecca to Muslims, especially during Ramadan, which marks the peak of the annual Umrah season. The designated Miqat points and mosques within the Haram boundary play a pivotal role as key gateways for pilgrims to the Holy Kaaba, through which they pass to enter Ihram. These organizational efforts align with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to increase the capacity for Umrah pilgrims and facilitate their spiritual journey. The efficient management of these sites is therefore a vital indicator of the overall success of the Hajj and Umrah system.

Statistics and visitor distribution details

Detailed data showed a wide variety of arrival patterns, with visitors entering via 291,094 vehicles, ranging from 19,186 large vehicles (buses), 89,027 medium vehicles, and 180,776 small vehicles, reflecting the infrastructure's flexibility in dealing with different modes of transport.

Field and monitoring efforts

To ensure the smooth flow of these massive numbers, the authority allocated a workforce of approximately 800 personnel working around the clock. Specialized teams conducted 3,513 intensive monitoring tours, resulting in the immediate identification and resolution of 7,667 observations, which contributed to improving the quality of services provided. It is worth noting that no security incidents were recorded during this period, reflecting the high level of professionalism in crowd management and the effective security coordination.

Reflections of operational success

The CEO of the Royal Commission, Engineer Saleh Al-Rasheed, affirmed that these indicators reflect the high level of preparedness and smooth operation of field operations. This success in managing crowds during the first half of Ramadan is a positive indicator of operational capacity during the last ten days, which typically witness peak demand, thus reinforcing the Kingdom's leading position in managing millions of pilgrims and providing the highest quality services to the guests of God.
