Makkah's preparations for Hajj: 22,000 field staff to serve pilgrims

A full mobilization to serve the pilgrims in Mecca and the holy sites

The Holy Capital Municipality announced the continuation of its operational and field plans for the Hajj season, through an integrated system of municipal, operational, and regulatory services. This strategic move aims to raise the level of preparedness to the highest degree in Makkah and the Holy Sites, and improve the quality of services provided to pilgrims, in line with the objectives of the Quality of Life Program within the Kingdom's Vision 2030, and contributes to providing a healthy and safe environment throughout this exceptional season.

The historical context of the Kingdom's efforts in serving pilgrims

Historically, since its founding, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has devoted immense attention and care to serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors. Over the decades, the management of the Hajj season has evolved from traditional methods to the adoption of the latest global technologies in crowd management and smart city planning. These efforts are an extension of the Kingdom's noble mission to facilitate the performance of the Hajj rituals for the millions of Muslims who flock annually from all corners of the earth, reflecting a firm commitment to the continuous and sustainable development of infrastructure and logistical services.

Mobilizing human and mechanical resources: figures and statistics

As part of its extensive preparations, the municipality explained that it has mobilized more than 22,000 field personnel working around the clock at various vital locations. These personnel are supported by more than 3,000 pieces of advanced equipment and machinery to enhance response times, improve operational efficiency, and ensure the continuity of municipal services according to the highest standards of readiness.

Regarding cleaning and environmental sanitation, the Secretariat indicated that more than 13,000 sanitation workers were employed, and more than 88,000 cleaning units were carefully distributed throughout the holy sites and central areas. In addition, 1,235 waste compactors were put into operation as part of a modern waste management system to maintain the cleanliness of public areas and minimize any accumulation that could affect the health and safety of pilgrims.

Health monitoring and the use of smart technologies

To ensure food safety, the Secretariat has strengthened its health monitoring system by operating five fixed and mobile laboratories with an analytical capacity exceeding 1,300 samples daily. This step aims to support field inspection efforts and ensure full compliance with health requirements in all food establishments serving pilgrims.

The municipality also activated 66 municipal service centers to cover various locations, in addition to deploying 95 emergency field teams to respond immediately to any emergencies. The municipality emphasized its support for its plans with smart systems and digital platforms, and the utilization of modern technologies in monitoring field operations, which contributes to faster decision-making and improved service quality.

The local and international impact of a successful Hajj season

The success of the Hajj operational plan has a significant impact on several levels. Domestically, this organization enhances the efficiency of the infrastructure and supports the national economy by providing thousands of seasonal jobs. Regionally and internationally, presenting a leading model in managing massive crowds and providing the highest health and safety standards strengthens the Kingdom's soft power and sends a reassuring message to millions of Muslims worldwide that pilgrims to the Holy Mosque receive the highest levels of care and attention.
