Makkah's preparations for Ramadan: Maintenance of 16 bridges and 8 main roads

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced that it has raised the level of preparedness of its municipal services in the Holy City of Mecca to the highest degree in anticipation of the holy month of Ramadan and the Umrah season of 1447 AH. This step is part of comprehensive operational and service plans implemented by the Ministry, represented by the Municipality of Mecca, to ensure the provision of the highest quality services to pilgrims and residents of Mecca.

Infrastructure and road network development

As part of efforts to enhance infrastructure efficiency, preparations included extensive maintenance and upgrades to 16 bridges and 8 major arterial roads in Mecca. These works aim to support the anticipated smooth flow of traffic during the holy month and facilitate the movement of pedestrians and vehicles, especially during peak hours when traffic is heavy.

The plan also included raising the efficiency of the tunnel networks, which are a major artery for movement in the Holy City, as the works covered tunnels with a total length of 22,515 linear meters, in addition to 6,000 linear meters allocated for service tunnels, which enhances safety and security standards for road users.

Crowds of people and vehicles to serve the central area

The ministry explained that the total workforce mobilized for the season reached 13,549 workers, supported by a large fleet of 912 pieces of advanced equipment and machinery. To maintain public hygiene and environmental sanitation, more than 47,900 waste containers were distributed across various locations and neighborhoods.

The central area surrounding the Holy Mosque in Mecca received the greatest share of attention due to the high population density, as it was supported by more than 2,100 human resources, and more than 430 pieces of equipment and machinery were harnessed, and 367 advanced compacting waste containers were provided to ensure the rapid removal of waste.

Strategic importance and service integration

These preparations are of particular importance given the great religious significance of Mecca, which receives millions of pilgrims and visitors annually during Ramadan. These efforts align with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which prioritizes serving the guests of God and facilitating their spiritual journey by providing world-class infrastructure and a safe and healthy environment.

The integration of road maintenance and cleaning services is a crucial factor in crowd management and traffic congestion reduction, which positively impacts the spiritual experience of pilgrims and contributes to showcasing the Kingdom’s civilized image in managing major religious seasons efficiently and competently.
