Applications are now open for seasonal vehicles for the 1447 Hajj season in Mecca
The Holy Capital Municipality announced the opening of applications for seasonal vehicle licenses to serve pilgrims during the 1447 AH Hajj season. The municipality clarified that the application period will begin on Tuesday, 18 Dhu al-Qi'dah 1447 AH (November 18, 2020), as part of its early and intensive preparations to ensure the organization of seasonal activities and enhance the efficiency and quality of services provided to pilgrims.
Historical background and organizational significance
Seasonal commercial activities have been an integral part of the Hajj experience in Mecca throughout history, providing pilgrims with their basic needs for food, drink, and souvenirs. With the increasing number of pilgrims each year, the need to regulate these activities has become paramount to prevent disorganization and ensure smooth movement within the holy sites. This initiative by the Holy Capital Municipality is part of a comprehensive plan to transform these traditional activities into organized services that adhere to strict health and environmental standards, thereby enhancing the urban landscape of Mecca and improving the comfort and safety of pilgrims.
Economic and social impact
Locally, the Hajj season represents a significant economic opportunity for the residents of Mecca. The organization of seasonal carts contributes to providing thousands of temporary job opportunities for citizens, supporting local families and stimulating the city's economy. Establishing clear regulations and requirements ensures fair competition among applicants and guarantees high-quality services that meet the expectations of pilgrims arriving from around the world. This organization also reflects the Kingdom's commitment to efficient crowd management and service delivery, which creates a positive international impression.
Adherence to regulations to improve the pilgrim experience
The Secretariat confirmed that the application and approval process will be conducted according to an approved regulatory guide that specifies all requirements and controls. It emphasized the necessity for applicants to adhere to the regulatory guide, abide by the spaces allocated to them as per the signed contracts, and conduct the activities specified for each site according to the approved classification. The Secretariat urged those wishing to apply to complete the licensing procedures within a period not exceeding three days from the date of application, to ensure the completion of all regulatory procedures well before the start of the season. These efforts fall within the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, specifically the "Serving the Guests of God" program, which aims to enrich and deepen the Hajj and Umrah experience and provide the highest quality services to pilgrims.
