The Makkah Route Initiative in Côte d'Ivoire to facilitate Hajj procedures 2024

Facilitating the journey of pilgrims from Côte d'Ivoire

At Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Côte d'Ivoire, qualified Saudi personnel continue their efforts as part of the "Makkah Route Initiative," one of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leading programs for serving pilgrims. Specialized Saudi teams work around the clock to provide a comprehensive suite of services aimed at facilitating the travel procedures for Ivorian pilgrims and enabling them to complete all Hajj-related requirements before departing their country. This reflects the significant development in Hajj and Umrah services, in line with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

Background and development of the Makkah Route Initiative

The Makkah Route Initiative was first launched in 1438 AH (2017 CE) as a pilot program before being expanded to include several countries worldwide. The initiative represents a qualitative leap in the concept of serving pilgrims, transferring procedures traditionally carried out upon arrival at Saudi airports (such as visa issuance, health verification, passport and customs clearance, and baggage tagging and sorting) to departure airports in participating countries. This radical transformation embodies the Kingdom's commitment to harnessing technology and innovation to ensure the comfort of pilgrims and significantly reduce waiting times, allowing them to fully focus on the spiritual aspect of their journey.

The importance and expected impact of the initiative

On a local level, for pilgrims, the immediate impact is a smoother and more comfortable travel experience. Upon arrival at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah or Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, pilgrims are transferred directly to dedicated buses to take them to their accommodations, while their luggage is delivered to them by the relevant authorities. Internationally, the initiative reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leader in crowd management and the provision of advanced logistical services. It also strengthens bilateral relations between the Kingdom and beneficiary countries such as Côte d'Ivoire, and showcases the Kingdom's civilized image and its historical commitment to serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors from around the world.

Integrated efforts to serve the guests of God

It is worth noting that the Saudi Ministry of Interior is overseeing the implementation of this initiative for the eighth consecutive year, in cooperation with its partners from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Hajj and Umrah, and Media, as well as the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), and the Guests of God Service Program. A number of pilgrims benefiting from the initiative in Côte d'Ivoire expressed their profound satisfaction with the meticulous organization and the speed with which procedures were completed, emphasizing that these exceptional services provide them with a sense of reassurance and comfort before embarking on their spiritual journey to the Holy Land.
