The route to Mecca in Türkiye: Facilitating Hajj procedures and enhancing pilgrim comfort
Turkish pilgrims widely praise the “Makkah Route” initiative
A number of Turkish pilgrims benefiting from the "Makkah Route" initiative at Istanbul Airport expressed their deep appreciation for the efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to facilitate their spiritual journey. The pilgrims praised the high level of organization and the ease of procedures they experienced within the initiative's terminal, emphasizing that the comprehensive services provided contributed to a sense of peace and comfort, making their Hajj pilgrimage a smooth experience from the very beginning.
What is the Makkah Route Initiative? Its context and objectives
The Makkah Route Initiative is a pioneering initiative of the Saudi Ministry of Interior within the Guests of God Service Program, one of the key programs of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. Launched in 1438 AH (2017 CE), the initiative aims to revolutionize the pilgrim experience by completing entry procedures at the pilgrims' departure airports. These procedures include issuing electronic visas, collecting biometric data, verifying health requirements, and then tagging and sorting luggage for direct delivery to pilgrims' accommodations in Makkah and Madinah. Upon arrival at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, pilgrims proceed directly to their designated buses without having to wait in passport or customs lines, thus saving them hours of waiting and effort.
Strategic importance and international impact of the initiative
The Makkah Route Initiative holds significant strategic importance on multiple levels. Domestically, it helps alleviate pressure on Saudi airports during the busy Hajj season, enhancing operational efficiency and improving the quality of services provided. Internationally, it reflects the Kingdom's progressive image and its commitment to utilizing the latest technologies to serve pilgrims, thus reinforcing its position as a leader in the Islamic world. It also contributes to strengthening bilateral relations with the countries benefiting from the initiative, which this year includes seven: Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Morocco, Bangladesh, and Côte d'Ivoire. This ongoing expansion reflects the initiative's success and the desire of more countries to join it to provide the utmost comfort for their pilgrims.
Firsthand accounts from the heart of the experience in Istanbul
The “Makkah Route” initiative continues to provide its services in Istanbul for the fourth consecutive year. Hajj pilgrim Bahadir Kurtuluş expressed his overwhelming joy at fulfilling his 15-year dream of performing Hajj, noting that the ease of procedures from the moment he arrived at the airport enhanced his sense of comfort and peace of mind. Hajj pilgrim Sanai Bulut (60 years old), accompanied by his wife, confirmed that they had waited many years for this opportunity, and that the excellent organization and speed of processing within the initiative's hall saved them considerable time and effort.
